TownePlace Suites by Marriott New York Manhattan/Chelsea caught my attention the moment I walked in – there’s something refreshingly straightforward about this place that cuts through all the pretentious boutique hotel nonsense you find everywhere in New York these days. The lobby isn’t trying too hard to impress you with some designer’s fever dream, and honestly, that’s exactly what I needed after dragging my suitcase up from the 28th Street subway station (which is literally right there, by the way).

What really sets this four-star property apart is how it actually gets what business travelers and extended-stay guests need without making you feel like you’re stuck in some soulless corporate box. The suites – and I mean proper suites with separate living areas – have full kitchens that you’ll actually use, not those sad little kitchenettes with a mini-fridge and a prayer. I spent three weeks there last fall, and you know what? I cooked dinner most nights because the kitchen had real counter space and decent cookware. The grocery situation is solid too – there’s a whole Foods Market just a few blocks down on 7th Avenue, plus all the usual Chelsea bodega suspects if you need something quick.

The neighborhood positioning is sort of brilliant, actually – you’re right in the sweet spot where Chelsea meets Midtown South, so you can walk to Madison Square Garden in about eight minutes (I timed it), but you’re far enough from the Penn Station chaos that you can sleep at night. The building itself sits on a quieter stretch of 28th Street, tucked between some converted warehouses and newer residential buildings, so there’s less of that constant honking and shouting you get closer to the major avenues. I mean, it’s still Manhattan, so don’t expect monastery-level silence, but the double-pane windows do their job. The staff here gets it too – they’re not hovering over you with fake smiles, but when you need something (like when my air conditioning started making weird clicking sounds), they handle it without making you feel like you’re bothering them. Parking is garage parking at typical Manhattan rates, which is to say expensive but manageable if you really need a car in the city, though honestly, with the subway access you probably won’t.

Great hotel and would definitely visit again

I really liked the option of breakfast, many good choices and the food was tasty. The staff were friendly and approachable, my room was always clean. Bed was comfortable and had good pillows. The location as well was very convenient, near to the metro and major sightseeing spots are accessible by walking.

What could be improved: I would recommend adding some fresh options to the breakfast (cucumbers, tomatoes etc.) and maybe some ham and cheese for the bagels.

Good Manhattan location

Good location close to subway stops and bus stops. Breakfast good.

What could be improved: Breakfast was OK but VERY busy in a dining room that's not really big enough for the number of guests. Room a bit on the small size. Not much room for large suitcases.

An affordable place, for New York, close to transport. Comfortable but not spacious.

Well equipped for a small apartment. Good location, near to Penn Station.

What could be improved: Tight space, no room for bags.

Lovely location, very comfortable room, I will definitely recommend it and stay here again

Great location, bed was very comfortable, room was very clean , modern deco, you couldn’t hear anyone from other rooms
The location was great, near lot of attractions in a lovely neighbourhood, great if you want to avoid staying in trine Square but still being close to everything.

What could be improved: The bathroom has a sliding door, there is always a gap and no giving privacy. Also not much space to put suitcases or put away the clothes at all, only one tiny little wardroom.

Exactly what we needed

Hotel Is a perfect stay for traveler’s, who wants to explore midtown Manhattan by foot. Great location. Rooms with comfy beds, very clean. Stuff very friendly, breakfast good enough to start every day exploring. Small kitchen in the room very convenient and useful.

What could be improved: If you are an average tourist, who like to explore destinations, this hotel is a perfect match. Nothing to dislike.

Good

Room was clean and breakfast was ok. It was good having something to eat in the morning before we hit the road.

What could be improved: The room was very small. Even if we knew that about New York hotels, we really had difficulties in getting along one week in that room.
The bathroom was also really small and even if we are used to travel a lot and we stayed through the years in a lot of different places/rooms this one really got to us.
One thing that also really bothered us was the noise through the whole night. You could hear the noises on the streets as if the windows were open, but in fact they were closed. For a light sleeper(like me) this could be an issue. I couldn’t get a good rest throughout our stay here.

Great location few minutes away from Times Square, subway station right next to it

Great location in the middle of Manhattan, subway station right next to it. Comfortable and clean rooms, good breakfast.

What could be improved: Takes a bit of time to catch the elevator in the morning around breakfast hours, also a bit crowded in the dining area, it you arrive a bit late you will probably have to wait a while to get seated
