Carnegie Hotel
I'll be honest - I walked past Carnegie Hotel probably a dozen times before I actually noticed it, and that's sort of the point.
I’ll be honest – I walked past Carnegie Hotel probably a dozen times before I actually noticed it, and that’s sort of the point. This four-star gem sits quietly on West 56th Street, right in that sweet spot where Midtown’s chaos starts to settle down but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. It’s one of those places that feels like a well-kept secret, even though it’s practically next door to Carnegie Hall (hence the name, obviously).
What really got me about this place was how they’ve managed to capture that classic New York hotel vibe without all the stuffiness you usually get. The lobby has this warm, almost residential feel – like you’re visiting a very well-appointed friend rather than checking into another generic corporate box. The staff actually remembers your name after day two, which honestly surprised me. I mean, this isn’t some tiny boutique with twelve rooms; they’re dealing with plenty of guests, but somehow they make it feel personal. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “New York spacious,” which means they’re perfectly comfortable once you adjust your expectations – you’re not going to be doing yoga in here, but there’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in. The beds are genuinely good (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have that satisfying weight to the fixtures that tells you someone cared about the details.
Location-wise, you’re golden here. Carnegie Hall is literally right there, which is fantastic if you’re into that scene, but what I really loved was being able to walk to Central Park in about eight minutes – perfect for morning runs or just escaping the concrete for a bit. The subway situation is solid too; you’ve got multiple lines within a few blocks, so getting around the city is actually painless. Parking is typical Midtown expensive if you’re driving, but honestly, why would you? One thing worth mentioning – the neighborhood gets pretty quiet at night, especially compared to Times Square madness just a few blocks south. You can actually sleep here, which isn’t always a given in this part of town. The hotel itself runs efficiently without being sterile; check-in was smooth, the elevators are quick (small detail, but it matters when you’re on the 15th floor), and there’s a business center that’s actually useful rather than just decorative. I stayed here during both summer tourist season and a quieter winter stretch, and the service stayed consistently solid. It’s not trying to be the flashiest place in the city, and that’s exactly why it works so well.
To book a hotel in New York during major events like Fashion Week, travelers need early planning as this vibrant city draws visitors eager to experience its dynamic energy and world-famous skyline.

Guest Reviews
would def recommend…much more intimate than your average nyc hotel.
intimate and exceptionally clean hotel in a great location with a very welcoming staff. and no wait for the elevators , which is a pet peeve of mine.
What could be improved: the room had no view and was a bit small.
This is your next stay in New York
Perfect location, perfect staff. Very clean and comfortable rooms. Cleaning Service was amazing. Couldn't be better. Did I mention the location ? Outstanding !
What could be improved: Breakfast is nice but basic, if at all possible a slight enlargement of the breakfast area would make the experience even better.
It was great and very comfortable!
Location, cleanliness, staff were so helpful and nice, free breakfast, wine and cheese every day at 5 pm, and felt safe.
What could be improved: Would have liked to make coffee in our room (have a coffee maker). Loud noises outside from construction and vehicles.
Great hotel
Great location and nice modern room
Great experience! Will definitely stay again.
The staff were great! The breakfast options were perfect.
Could not have been better.
Everything was exceptional. Location, Luggage storage, staff, clean room, comfortable bed and pillows, great bathroom with excellent water pressure in the shower, snacks and coffee, wine and cheese happy hour … everything was just outstanding.
Wonderful
The staff was truly amazing. From front desk to the service and conversation during the complimentary wine and cheese. The room was clean and the bathroom was particularly lovely with great products.
Exceptional
It was in a great location. Surrounded by many restaurants and souvenir shops. It was just two blocks from Central Park! Everything we wanted to see was within walking distance. The main woman at the reception desk was so great, also. Made us feel very welcome! I wish I could remember her name. She was awesome.
What could be improved: The hotel sent me a text stating I had been downgraded to a Queen Room due to HVAC issues. I was disappointed to have been given a smaller room when I paid for a King room. Upon check-in I was still under the impression I would be receiving a Queen Room but was happy it was a King once we entered the room.
Not sure we could have picked a better hotel than the Carnegie!
Great mid-town location! Walking distance to the Park, Times. Sq, St Patrick's, Rock Center et al. (Patsy's was a block and a half away! Molto bene!) We were on the eighth floor directly across from Carnegie Hall - we were able to open a window slightly to capture some fresh air - some street noise with window open but total silence just by closing the window and turning on AC. Very comfortable bed and large walk- in shower. We were a little off-put at first by having no coffee machine in the room but it turned out to be totally unnecessary with the availability of 24/7 (free) beverages in lobby. I believe there's only 4 rooms to a floor (that I saw) so the elevator was just steps from the room. Took literally 5 minutes to go to the lobby and get multiple cups of coffee and place on a tray and return to the room. Hotel also offers breakfast in the morning and snacks with wine in the evening. When I was traveling for work - this hotel would have been very near the top of my list of great places to stay. Staff was very welcoming and helpful! Rating 9.9. Well done, Carnegie Hotel! (PS: also loved the lobby mural with past Carnegie Hall performers)
What could be improved: We didn't see a luggage rack in the closet (?) so we had to place our luggage bags on the floor- not a big deal- but it does take up some floor space in the room.
Exceptional
Comfortable, clean, stylish.
Friendly, helpful staff.
Excellent location.
Plentiful breakfast.
Cheese & wine.
What could be improved: It was a bit crowded at breakfast, as the space is small.
