The Michelangelo Hotel
You know what really struck me about The Michelangelo Hotel when I first walked in?
You know what really struck me about The Michelangelo Hotel when I first walked in? It feels like someone transported a slice of classic European elegance right into the heart of Midtown Manhattan. I mean, you’re literally steps away from Times Square – you can hear the energy buzzing outside – but the moment you step through those doors on West 51st Street, there’s this immediate sense of calm sophistication that honestly caught me off guard.
The lobby has these gorgeous marble details and rich fabrics that remind you this is definitely a four-star property, but it’s not stuffy or intimidating like some of the older New York hotels can be. The staff actually remembers your name after a day or two, which is pretty rare in this city. I stayed here during one of those crazy busy weeks in December when Broadway shows are packed and tourists are everywhere, and somehow they managed to keep things running smoothly without that frantic hotel energy you usually get in Times Square area properties. The rooms are larger than you’d expect for Midtown – and trust me, that matters when you’re dealing with typical Manhattan hotel room sizes. They’ve got this warm, Italian-inspired design that feels cozy rather than cramped, and the bathrooms are surprisingly spacious with really good water pressure (honestly, after a long day walking around the city, that shower hits differently).
What I really appreciate is the location – you’re close enough to all the tourist stuff that you can walk to most Broadway theaters in under ten minutes, but you’re on a side street that doesn’t get the full blast of Times Square chaos at all hours. The subway access is solid too; you’ve got multiple lines within a few blocks, so getting to other parts of the city is actually pretty straightforward. I will say, if you’re driving, definitely factor in parking costs because street parking around there is basically non-existent, and the hotel’s valet service isn’t cheap – but that’s just New York reality. The concierge team knows their stuff though, especially when it comes to restaurant recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps. They steered me toward this amazing little Italian place about six blocks away that I never would have found on my own. Overall, it’s one of those hotels that manages to feel both distinctly New York and refreshingly civilized at the same time, which is honestly harder to find than you might think in this part of the city.

An amazing family holiday made even better by staying in a great hotel. I am so happy with my choice and recommend The
I spent a lot of time researching a hotel in NY and after much consideration and reading reviews decided on The Michaelangelo. The location is perfect, close to Times Square but not in the middle of the madness. The rooms were very spacious and clean. Beds comfortable and every request was catered for immediately.
What could be improved: Every time you call a lift, one arrives almost immediately, this is not something that happens in many of the large NY hotels. A good breakfast served by friendly staff.
