First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Edison Times Square feels like stepping into a piece of New York history — and I mean that in the best way possible. This four-star hotel has been around since 1931, and honestly, it wears its age well. The Art Deco lobby still has that classic Manhattan charm, though they’ve updated things enough that you’re not dealing with ancient plumbing or sketchy elevators. You know what struck me most? The energy here — it’s buzzing without being chaotic, which is exactly what you want when you’re staying in the Theater District.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about staying on West 47th Street — you’re literally in the thick of everything that makes New York exciting. I could walk to Times Square in about two minutes (though honestly, sometimes that felt like too close when the crowds got intense). But the real magic happens when you realize you’re surrounded by Broadway theaters. I mean, we’re talking about being able to grab dinner and catch a show without dealing with subway transfers or expensive cab rides. The restaurant scene right outside the door is incredible too — from hole-in-the-wall pizza joints to those fancy pre-theater spots that somehow always have a table if you know when to ask.
The Room Experience
My room was smaller than what you’d get in most cities, but this is Manhattan — you’re paying for location, not square footage. What I appreciated was how thoughtfully they’d designed the space. The bed was actually comfortable (not always a given in older hotels), and they’d managed to fit in a decent work area near the window. The bathroom was compact but functional, and the water pressure was surprisingly good. Actually, the best part might have been the view — depending on which side you’re on, you either get the neon glow of Times Square or a peek at the more residential streets that remind you there are actual New Yorkers living their lives just blocks away.
Breakfast & Practical Details
The breakfast situation here is pretty straightforward — they offer breakfast to go, which honestly makes perfect sense given the location. Why sit in a hotel dining room when you can grab your coffee and pastry and eat it while people-watching in Times Square? The staff seemed to get this too — they had the grab-and-go setup down to a science, even during the morning rush. Parking is available, though I’d honestly recommend skipping the car entirely if you can. This is one of those places where having a vehicle just creates more headaches than it solves.
Why Guests Love It
Look, couples absolutely love this place — and after staying here, I totally get why they rate the location so highly. There’s something romantic about being able to walk hand-in-hand through the Theater District, catching a late show, then stumbling back to your hotel without worrying about transportation. But it’s not just couples — anyone who wants to experience that classic New York energy will find exactly what they’re looking for here. The hotel strikes this perfect balance between old-school New York character and modern comfort, all while putting you right in the center of one of the world’s most exciting neighborhoods.

Highly recommend staying here for location and value for money
Superb location and great facilities
A very good stay at this hotel and close to everything.
Breakfast at Friedman's was great, especially with the vouchers that reduced the cost quite a bit.
Close to Times Square, subway, Broadway shows and more.
What could be improved: Room was too dark, could use a floor lamp to supplement the lighting. Bathroom was tiny. The room and bed were comfortable.
A great deal of door slamming, especially from the housekeeping staff. Signs should be posted in the rooms about not disturbing you neighbors with door slamming.
Wonderful
Very comfy. Good location.
What could be improved: Very noisy at night
Very relaxed!
Clean and good service, Nice people
Wonderful
Close to area i aim to be,
Wonderful
from Times Square and ideal for exploring Manhattan on foot. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, always attentive to guests’ needs. The double room was clean, comfortable, and had the right size for two people.
A small detail: the room could be a bit brighter, but overall the stay was a very positive experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would definitely choose to stay there again if the opportunity presents.
I loved that it was so conveniently located. I liked that it had a rich history and had maintained the art-deco style. It had a homely atmosphere and the staff were friendly. I enjoyed the participation of so many friendly people in the streetwise walks and wine hour.
What could be improved: The room was a little small with only one chair and one bedside surface.
Wonderful
Location was great. Art deco fixtures were intriguing.
What could be improved: No laundry facilities
It was top drawer
Location was perfect for iconic Times Square but also for the transport links we required and other attractions we wanted to see and restaurant's/cafe’s we wanted to visit. Staff were genuinely friendly and only too happy to help.
What could be improved: I’m finding this difficult! Maybe the room was a little small for three adults but we knew what we were letting ourselves into. Breakfast options didn’t change in a week but it got us up and out
It was good. Staff was not unfriendly but I think they could work on being friendlier.
Location, cleanliness
What could be improved: My room had no fridge
