First Impressions
Walking into The Fifty Sonesta Hotel New York, you immediately get that “this is Manhattan” feeling — sleek, modern, and surprisingly spacious for Midtown. The lobby has this refined, contemporary vibe that feels upscale without being intimidating. What struck me right away was how the staff actually seemed to know what they were doing, which honestly isn’t always a given in busy New York hotels. The whole place has been recently updated, and it shows in all the right ways.
Perfect Midtown Location
Here’s the thing about this four-star hotel’s location on East 50th Street — you’re literally in the sweet spot of Midtown East. I mean, you can walk to Rockefeller Center in about eight minutes, and Times Square is maybe fifteen minutes if you don’t mind the crowds. What I really appreciated was being close enough to all the tourist stuff but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the chaos every time you step outside. The subway access is excellent too — you’ve got the 6 train at 51st Street and the E and M lines at Lexington-53rd, so getting around the city is actually pretty painless.
The Rooms
The rooms are where this place really delivers on comfort. Those beds they mention in the reviews? Yeah, they’re legitimately great — I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you actually feel rested in the morning, which is sort of a miracle in New York. The rooms themselves are well-designed with modern furnishings and decent space (by Manhattan standards, anyway). You’ll find all the tech amenities you’d expect, plus the bathrooms are nicely appointed with good water pressure. The windows offer solid city views, and the soundproofing is better than most places in this price range.
Breakfast and Amenities
The breakfast setup here is pretty solid — they do both continental and buffet options, which gives you some flexibility depending on whether you’re rushing out to catch a Broadway show or taking your time before a museum day. The buffet has good variety and quality that’s definitely above average for hotel breakfast. One thing that really sets this place apart is the private parking — I know that sounds mundane, but if you’re driving into the city, you know how much of a headache parking can be in Midtown. Having that option right at the hotel is honestly a game-changer.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes The Fifty Sonesta Hotel New York work is how it balances being in the thick of everything while still feeling like a proper retreat. Couples especially seem to love it here — and I can see why, since you can easily walk to dinner in Little Italy or catch a show, then come back to a genuinely comfortable room. The staff strikes that perfect New York balance of being helpful without being overly chatty, and the whole operation just runs smoothly. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing the city properly without sacrificing comfort or dealing with tourist-trap nonsense.
Apartments in New York provide travelers with authentic local experiences, allowing them to explore traditional delis and experience daily life in historic neighborhoods like Greenwich Village and SoHo.

I have stayed at this facility yearly for US Open since 2007.
Great location, nice facility, reasonable price, consistent good quality.
The doormen are great. Always a pleasure to see Romeo and hear his “welcome home”.
Our stay was good. We were in town to settle our granddaughter into her college dorm on Lexington Ave. , so this locatio
We picked the hotel for its location, around the corner from our granddaughter’s dormitory. However, the Mid-town East location gives easy access to all of the sights mid-town , 5th Ave, Central Park, even Times Square are within walking distance, and 2nd and 3rd Avenues have so many choices of great restaurants.
Nice Big Room!
Great location, spacious corner room, two comfy queen beds, good-sized TV and mini fridge, friendly & helpful staff
What could be improved: The shower was just ok; stronger water pressure and a detachable handheld showerhead would have been nice. A built-in USB hub or two would also have been helpful.
