I’ll be honest – when I first walked into The Fifty Sonesta Hotel New York, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like just another Midtown tower. But you know what? This four-star place on East 50th really surprised me, and I mean that in the best way possible.
The location is actually pretty brilliant if you think about it. You’re right there in Midtown East, which sounds touristy until you realize you can walk to Grand Central in about five minutes (seriously, time it), and Saint Patrick’s Cathedral is literally around the corner. I stayed here during Fashion Week once, and the lobby was buzzing with industry people – apparently it’s become a bit of a hub for that crowd, though I’m not entirely sure why. The rooms themselves have this clean, contemporary feel that doesn’t try too hard to be trendy. They’ve got floor-to-ceiling windows, which is clutch when you’re on a higher floor because the city views are actually decent. I mean, you’re not getting Central Park vistas, but watching the street life on 50th from up there? It’s oddly mesmerizing, especially in the evening when everyone’s rushing to catch trains.
What really sold me on this place was the practical stuff that nobody talks about in reviews. The elevators are fast (thank god, because slow hotel elevators are my personal hell), the Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building, and – this might sound weird – but the air conditioning is properly quiet. I’m a light sleeper, so that rattling AC unit thing that plagues half the hotels in New York would’ve been a deal-breaker. The fitness center is small but functional, though it gets crowded around 7 AM with the business traveler crowd. There’s also this rooftop space that’s not heavily advertised, but it’s a nice spot to decompress if you need a break from the street-level chaos. Honestly, the whole experience feels more polished than I expected – like someone actually thought about how people use hotel spaces instead of just making everything look Instagram-ready. It’s not the flashiest place you’ll ever stay, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re dealing with the sensory overload that is Midtown Manhattan.
Apartments in New York provide travelers with authentic local experiences, allowing them to explore traditional delis and experience daily life in historic neighborhoods like Greenwich Village and SoHo.

I have stayed at this facility yearly for US Open since 2007.
Great location, nice facility, reasonable price, consistent good quality.
The doormen are great. Always a pleasure to see Romeo and hear his “welcome home”.
Our stay was good. We were in town to settle our granddaughter into her college dorm on Lexington Ave. , so this locatio
We picked the hotel for its location, around the corner from our granddaughter’s dormitory. However, the Mid-town East location gives easy access to all of the sights mid-town , 5th Ave, Central Park, even Times Square are within walking distance, and 2nd and 3rd Avenues have so many choices of great restaurants.
Nice Big Room!
Great location, spacious corner room, two comfy queen beds, good-sized TV and mini fridge, friendly & helpful staff
What could be improved: The shower was just ok; stronger water pressure and a detachable handheld showerhead would have been nice. A built-in USB hub or two would also have been helpful.
