Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Westgate New York Grand Central, I wasn’t expecting much from what I thought would be just another midtown business hotel. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this classic New York elegance without feeling stuffy, and you can tell they’ve put real thought into the details. The staff at check-in knew their stuff too, which honestly isn’t always a given in New York hotels where everyone’s rushing around.

What really sold me on this four-star spot is the location – and I mean the actual, practical location, not just the marketing speak. You’re literally steps from Grand Central, which sounds obvious given the name, but it’s the kind of close where you can grab your morning coffee from the terminal’s food court and be back in your room in under five minutes. The Chrysler Building is right there looking gorgeous, especially at sunset, and you’re walking distance to Bryant Park without dealing with the Times Square chaos. I spent a good chunk of one afternoon just wandering around the Murray Hill neighborhood – it’s got this nice residential feel that’s rare in midtown, with some solid little restaurants tucked away on the side streets.

The rooms themselves are well, they’re New York hotel rooms, so don’t expect palatial, but they’re thoughtfully designed and actually quiet, which is kind of a miracle on 42nd Street. The beds are legitimately comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are modern without trying too hard to be trendy. What I really appreciated was the attention to business traveler needs – plenty of outlets, good lighting for laptop work, and fast wifi that actually works. The fitness center is small but has everything you need, and it’s usually not crowded in the mornings. One thing to note: the neighborhood can get pretty busy during rush hours since you’re so close to the train hub, but honestly, that energy is part of what makes staying here feel authentically New York. If you’re here on weekends, it quiets down considerably. The whole experience just feels more genuine than those massive tourist-trap hotels, and the service has that efficient-but-friendly vibe that locals appreciate.

Perfect location

The room on the 16th floor was very nice and quiet! Bed and pillows very comfy. Great that they gave us two bottles of water every day. The staff were very helpful and polite! The location was very central, can walk all over!

Perfect!

I found this hotel to be super modern, clean, with large sized rooms for New York! It was in a good location within walking distance to Times Square, grand central was nearby with links to the subway. Overall incredibly pleased!

Would definitely stay here again!

Nice location although a bit noisy. The rooms are quite spacious for this area of town. The hotel has a nice old world charm to it, The doorman are extremely nice and helpful. The beds were comfortable and room was clean.

What could be improved: It would have been nice to have water machines throughout the hotel rather than providing bottled water and some of the room fittings (e.g. hooks) need a bit of a refresh but overall not much to mention.

Wonderful

For New York City, the hotel was great. The only downside was that the room was a bit dark. But overall still a very good experience and would definitely stay again.

Wonderful

Great and really helpful staff

Lovely room which was very comfortable and spacious

Great bathroom

Free bottled water from reception was very nice and handy

Good location

Really nice air con

Very well maintained property

What could be improved: Very minor issues like:

Door on desk not staying closed

Small gap at bottom of doors meant light was coming in from hallway all night, not major but was noticeable

Not the best view (netting with rubbish in it)
