Hotel Beacon
You know what struck me first about Hotel Beacon?
You know what struck me first about Hotel Beacon? Walking up to it on Broadway, it doesn’t try to impress you with some flashy entrance – it just sits there confidently on the Upper West Side, like it knows exactly what it is. And honestly, that’s kind of perfect for this neighborhood. I mean, you’re literally steps from Lincoln Center (I could hear the pre-show buzz from my room on the 12th floor), but it doesn’t feel touristy or overpriced like some of those Midtown places.
The thing about this four-star spot is that it gets the balance right. The rooms are bigger than what you’d expect in New York – and I’m talking actually spacious, not just “spacious for Manhattan.” Mine had this great corner setup where I could see both the Hudson River and catch glimpses of the city sprawl. The staff seemed to really know their stuff too, not just the rehearsed tourist recommendations but actual neighborhood intel. When I asked about late-night food, the front desk guy pointed me toward this little Dominican place on Amsterdam that I never would’ve found otherwise.
What really sold me though was how it fits into the Upper West Side rhythm. You’re right there with all the locals doing their grocery runs at Fairway, and Riverside Park is basically your backyard – I actually saw families having picnics there at like 9 PM in the summer, which is so perfectly New York. The subway access is solid (72nd Street station is right there), but honestly, I ended up walking everywhere because the neighborhood just pulls you in. Sure, the lobby gets a bit hectic during Lincoln Center season, and the elevators can be slow when there’s a big group, but these feel like minor complaints when you’re paying reasonable rates for a place that doesn’t make you feel like you’re staying in a corporate hotel box. It’s the kind of spot where you actually want to hang around the neighborhood instead of just crashing between tourist stops.

Exceptional
We love this hotel and it's location. The staff, and the rooms are great too!
Great location with friendly staff and a comfortable bed but wifi is terrible
Great location, friendly staff, spacious suite and very comfortable bed.
What could be improved: Internet was absolutely awful. It kept kicking us out. Front desk staff kindly gave us access to the staff wifi but it was no better. Had I intended to work more on this trip, it would have made it even worse.
I wasn’t happy with the hot water in our shower. Couldn’t get it hot enough for me and the cold water knob in the kitchen never did work. Worse than all that was the day we had brown coming out of the pipes. Only after notifying the front desk did they tell me there had been work done that day and to keep the water running to flush the pipes. I would have appreciated advance warning of this along with some bottled water. I never trusted the water after the incident and bought our own bottled water for coffee and drinking.
A home away from home.
The general proposal from Hotel Beacon is well balanced. For the kind of trip -8+ days stay, leisure- it felt like home, which is something super valuable in a big city like NY. Great sleep, big room, clean and everything works. No fuzz with shower temperature, great towels. A/C reliable. Elevators work, no waits even with high occupancy. All staff is super warm and eager to help, respond. It's the same faces, after a couple of days they get to know you. Seasoned staff that know their trade, no robots, human beings. No gigantic, impersonal lobby or infinite services (that don't work as well as the grandeur they promote). Hotel Beacon offers a well adjusted set of services that work well. No minibar but a kitchenette with a real refrigerator with freezer, just go across the street and buy whatever you'd like to have there. Toaster, capsule coffee machine, DIY! I will return and will also recommend it. Thanks, HB, for this exceptional experience!
What could be improved: Nothing in particular. There was no magnifying mirror (that we didn't require, we don't have it at home) but I am sure they would have provided it if we asked... Being an aged building I had doubts about maintenance, the photos looked saturated but, let me tell you, the reality is better than the pictures they publish, the hotel is perfectly well maintained, up-to-date, it's simple, nothing fancy, just works, it's clean and welcoming. Another doubt I had is always rugs... stains, smell of cleaning products. Nothing, just super clean and well kept. Perfect.
best stay in NYC ever
staff were happy - everyone!
What could be improved: na
Great hotel but costly on weekends.
Perfect NY hotel, great location on the upper west side, feels like a neighborhood not within the insanity of midtown. Loved this place and will stay again.
What could be improved: Fluctuating prices not he weekend really put you off staying longer.

Great room, extermemy kind staff, perfect location.
What could be improved: Nothing !
Characterful 1920's hotel in great location
Great location for this art deco lady, full of charm and old New York style.
Rooms had comfy beds, nice pillows, good aircon, good lighting, decent bathrooms.
The kitchenettes were small but functionable, with fridge (small freezer) micro-waveh, toaster, kettle etc. With the market across the street, breakfasts in the rooms were a no-brainer.
Staff very helpful at check-in, check-out and in between.
What could be improved: Not a lot.
Hotel Beacon is now our go to hotel in NYC, the location, staff and room were awesome, welcoming and felt like a home in
Very clean, comfortable and convenient, the property more than exceeded our expectations.
What could be improved: I guess if I had to complain about something it would be the lack of check in parking?
This is our go to hotel when moving our daughter in and out of Columbia. Love the kitchenette and market across the stre
Location, kitchen, extra space in a suite. Sleeper sofa is very comfortable.
What could be improved: Bathrooms are sooooo small. The AC in our living room wasn’t working.
