First Impressions
Walking into The Benjamin Royal Sonesta New York feels like stepping into old-school Manhattan elegance — the kind you see in movies but rarely experience firsthand. This five-star property on East 50th Street has that refined luxury vibe without being stuffy about it. The lobby strikes this perfect balance between grand and welcoming, and honestly, the staff seems genuinely happy to see you rather than just going through the motions. The attention to detail is evident from the moment you arrive, setting the tone for an exceptional stay in the heart of the city.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about this spot in New York? You’re literally in the heart of Midtown East, which means you can walk to basically everything that matters. I mean, you’re a few blocks from Rockefeller Center, close enough to Central Park for morning runs, and the subway connections are fantastic. The couples who stay here absolutely love it — and I get why, because there’s something romantic about being able to stroll to dinner at some incredible restaurant and then walk back through the city lights. The neighborhood offers endless dining and entertainment options within walking distance.
The Rooms
The room I stayed in was spacious by Manhattan standards — actually spacious, not just “well, it’s bigger than a closet” spacious. The Benjamin has this thing where they really care about sleep quality, which sounds like marketing speak until you experience their DreamWell program. The blackout curtains actually work, the bed is phenomenal, and they’ve thought through all those little details that help you get proper rest in a city that never sleeps. Modern amenities blend seamlessly with classic comfort throughout the accommodations.
Dining & Amenities
Breakfast here leans American, which works perfectly when you want something substantial before tackling the city. The luxury touches are everywhere but they don’t feel forced — like having parking available in Midtown (which is honestly a small miracle), or the way the concierge actually knows the neighborhood instead of just reading from a script. There’s also a spa that’s perfect for unwinding after walking fifteen miles around Manhattan, because let’s be honest, that’s what you’ll end up doing. The kitchen facilities in select suites provide additional convenience for extended stays.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing that really sets this place apart — people keep coming back. There are way more repeat guests here than at most hotels, and after staying here, I totally understand why. It’s not just the excellent location (though that 9.4 score speaks for itself), it’s how the whole experience feels effortless. You’re not fighting the hotel or the city; everything just works smoothly so you can focus on enjoying New York. Whether you’re here for business or pleasure, The Benjamin gets that luxury isn’t about showing off — it’s about making your life easier and more comfortable in one of the world’s most demanding cities. This commitment to guest satisfaction makes it a standout choice for discerning travelers.

Wonderful
Nicely decorated and helpful staff
Great midtown location.
our 1bd was well appointed and clean.
What could be improved: 2nd floor was under renovation and we couldn’t take the stairs down from the 4th floor when the 2 small elevators were crowded.
Great location for a family vacation
Room size
What could be improved: Facilities
Excellent location, nice rooms
Location, view
What could be improved: No restaurant or bar and breakfast
Great location, spacious rooms and helpful staff
Room was spotlessly clean, spacious and the bed was very comfortable - we slept really well despite the noise of the city. Staff were courteous and friendly. The location was good with many local restaurants, bars, cafes and shops.
What could be improved: The ‘kitchenette’ was tiny, with only a fridge, microwave and wheezy coffee machine. We weren’t planning on cooking, but a toaster and hob ring would have been useful. Also the hot water in bathroom was not very hot and took a long time to just get tepid.
We truly enjoyed our stay
We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel which we booked for the night before and after our wedding. The room was huge for NYC standards and had everything it needed. The staff was friendly and responsive.
What could be improved: We had minor issues with our booking due to slight changes in our plans, but it was resolved afterwards so we are thankful for that.
Amazing place extremely well located
Amazing rooms, and kitchenette
What could be improved: The restaurant for breakfast will reopen by the end of the year
Very Good
Location , cleanliness , comfort
What could be improved: No bar and bo food options
Wonderful
Everything. Staff went out of their way, especially Elias and Angelo, the doormen, who were always with a smile, a kind word, and were super helpful.
What could be improved: The street noise was very evident ... perhaps changing the windows to noise-proof windows would be ideal.
Nice stay in NY
The room, the location, the staff
What could be improved: The size of the bathroom, very too small for 4 ! Just 1 person could stay inside
