First Impressions
Walking into W New York – Union Square, you immediately know you’re somewhere that takes itself seriously — but in the best possible way. The lobby pulses with energy, and honestly, it feels more like stepping into a high-end nightclub than a traditional hotel. This five-star property sits right in the heart of New York, and you can feel the city’s rhythm from the moment you arrive. The design is bold and unapologetic, with dramatic lighting and contemporary art that makes you want to pull out your phone for photos.
The Location Advantage
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? Union Square is actually one of those rare places in Manhattan where everything converges perfectly. You’ve got the 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R, and W trains all meeting right beneath your feet — I mean, you literally can’t get more connected than that. The Greenmarket happens right outside on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, so you’ll wake up to the bustle of local vendors setting up their stalls. Plus, you’re walking distance to both SoHo’s shopping scene and the East Village’s restaurant culture, which couples seem to absolutely love (they rate the location 9.3, and I get why).
The Room Experience
The room design follows W’s signature style — think sleek lines, rich textures, and those floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the city like artwork. Each space feels more like a luxury urban retreat than a typical hotel room, with custom furnishings and that signature W bed that’s honestly hard to leave in the morning. The bathrooms are particularly impressive, with rainfall showers and Bliss spa products that make you feel pampered without being overly fussy about it.
Dining and Social Spaces
The American breakfast here is solid — not groundbreaking, but well-executed with quality ingredients and options that actually satisfy. What really stands out, though, is how the hotel’s social spaces flow together. The lobby bar becomes this natural gathering spot where hotel guests mix with stylish locals, creating an atmosphere that feels authentically New York rather than touristy. There’s something energizing about having your morning coffee while watching the city wake up through those massive windows.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it captures what people want from a luxury New York experience — sophistication without stuffiness, prime location without the chaos, and service that feels personal rather than scripted. The staff genuinely seems to understand that guests want to feel like insiders, not outsiders looking in. Whether you’re here for business meetings in Midtown or romantic dinners in the Village, everything feels accessible from this central hub. It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay just because leaving feels like giving up the perfect New York base.

Best place to stay at Union Square area
This is an excellent hotel in one of my favorite locations in the city, just across Union Square and in walking distance to many coffee places, restaurants, and good stores. New, quite, clean, good service.
What could be improved: Rooms may be a little dark with very little sunlight. A little too expensive when compared to other hotels on the same category.
Well located and reasonable value for NYC.
Location and recently refurbished.
Good sized rooms.
What could be improved: Rooms too dark.
No USB at bedside.
Power outlet at bedside poorly located.
Great location and staff.
Location
What could be improved: Only that they were mid refurbishment so there was no restaurant/bar area to chill out in.
Lovely!
Location perfect. Very friendly helpful staff and doormen
Spacious beautiful rooms
Although no restaurant access at the moment, complimentary coffee and pastries provided for breakfast on the go
Great location, spacious Room
Our room was very large for a NYC hotel
Nice to have the space since we were there for 6 nights
Was an excellent location close to lots of restaurants and shops
Loved union square and the energy
Easy walking to many other happening neighborhoods in all directions
What could be improved: Requested a corner room with a view of union square. They gave us a corner room opposite union square on a lower floor. View wasn’t as great as anticipated
Relaxing and what was needed
The decor has been amazing and extremely comfortable. Location in the city is good.
What could be improved: There was some gunge left in the shower that wasn't cleaned. The restaurant was out of commission for refurbishment which was disappointing.
Overall stay was wonderful and we can't wait to come back when the renovations are complete.
Great location, comfortable rooms and friendly staff, except the breakfast person who gave my daughter a hard time for grabbing our pastries and coffee in the morning. It was my daughters and I staying in the room but we would send one person down every day to grab our breakfast. And he gave her a difficult time. Didn't appreciate that.
What could be improved: The renovation aspect. Limited the access we had to the hotel amenities.
Wonderful
A spacious & unique room, great customer service
What could be improved: Refrigerator is not working.. if i want to use it, i have to call
comfortable, great location
Room was a comfortable size, clean and quiet. Nice lighting, bedding, toiletries.
What could be improved: restaurant/dining area was still under construction so not open. The hotel did provide complimentary croissant and coffee to-go in the lobby in the morning though.
It was pleasurable
Location and friendly staff
What could be improved: The absence of the room service
