Sofitel New York
I'll be honest - when I first walked into Sofitel New York, I wasn't sure what to expect from a French hotel chain dropped right into the heart of Midtown Manhattan.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Sofitel New York, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a French hotel chain dropped right into the heart of Midtown Manhattan. But you know what? They actually pulled it off pretty well. This four-star spot sits right on West 44th Street, which means you’re literally a two-minute walk from Times Square (whether that’s a blessing or a curse depends on your tolerance for tourist chaos, I suppose).
The lobby hits you with this sort of sophisticated European vibe – lots of dark wood, plush seating, and that particular kind of lighting that makes everyone look like they belong in a magazine. What I really appreciated, though, was how the staff seemed to have their act together during check-in. No fumbling around with key cards or long waits, which honestly can make or break your first impression after a long travel day. The rooms themselves lean into that French aesthetic without going overboard – think clean lines, neutral colors, and beds that are actually comfortable enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you wrestled with the pillows all night. The bathrooms are decent sized too, which is saying something for New York where most hotel bathrooms feel like airplane lavatories.
Here’s the thing about the location – yes, you’re in the thick of everything, but that comes with trade-offs. The energy outside is constant, and I mean constant. If you’re a light sleeper, definitely request a room facing away from the street because the sounds of the city never really stop. That said, being able to walk to pretty much any Broadway show, grab food at any hour, or hop on the subway at Times Square-42nd Street station (it’s maybe a four-minute walk) makes up for the noise factor. The hotel restaurant is fine – nothing groundbreaking, but the breakfast won’t disappoint you, and room service actually arrives while your food is still warm. I’ve stayed at places in this price range where that’s apparently too much to ask. What surprised me most was how the elevators never seemed crowded or slow, which is a small miracle in a busy Midtown hotel. Look, this isn’t going to be the most unique or memorable hotel experience of your life, but sometimes you just want a place that does the basics really well without any unpleasant surprises – and that’s exactly what you get here.
New York hotels provide guests with comfortable accommodations in this never-sleeping city, known for its Broadway shows, world-class museums, and legendary shopping districts.

Wonderful
The staff were very friendly
What could be improved: I wish there was a water kettle or a coffee maker in the room with some complimentary tea and coffee, or at least a reusable water bottle.
Great service especially by the concierge Ithiel. He was so helpful organising the hop on hop off bus tour & taxi to
Great location
What could be improved: -
Very Good
room, bed
A comfortable stay with friendly staff.
Room was comfortable
Staff & manager went out of their way to allow us to surprise our friends who were getting married by decorating their room. That ment so much to us!
What could be improved: under construction/renovation so no lobby to speak of which ment we couldn’t gather with other friends. No ice. Restaurant closed 11am-noon. Valet parking was us walking with luggage to garage because of parade (not hotel fault) but we weren’t warned ahead and discovered this by chance. No business gesture made for this inconvenience.
Wonderful
Great location, friendly staff, quiet.
What could be improved: Room was a little tired, but a good size. The fold out sofa bed very squeaky. Breakfast needed a few more options.
Perfect winter break in the city
Absolutely clean and well maintained. The location is central to everything. Bed and bedding was so comfy. A home away from home.

What could be improved: The hotel is going through remodel but my room was in the older part of the hotel
Beautiful comfortable hotel in an excellent location
Location is fantastic, rooms are very comfortable and the restaurant is excellent. Beds are comfortable and what I have come to expect from Sofitel. Staff were helpful, polite and general atmosphere was a pleasant professional one.
What could be improved: Like everything in New York, it is expensive. This is not limited to the Sofitel but it is expensive.
Good stay. Would stay again.
Beds were very comfortable. Room was clean. Bathroom was nice.
