First Impressions
Walking up to Riu Plaza New York Times Square, you immediately notice it’s not trying to be the flashiest hotel on the block — and honestly, that’s refreshing in this part of Manhattan. The four-star property sits right in Hell’s Kitchen on 46th Street, which means you’re close enough to Times Square’s chaos without being smack in the middle of it. The lobby has this modern, clean aesthetic that feels upscale without being intimidating, and the staff actually seems genuinely happy to help rather than just going through the motions.
Location That Actually Works
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally a two-minute walk from Times Square, but you can also duck into some of Hell’s Kitchen’s incredible local restaurants without fighting tourist crowds. The subway access is fantastic (you’ve got multiple lines within easy walking distance), and I mean, when you step outside, you’re right there in the thick of everything Broadway has to offer. Recent guests have been raving about the location, and couples particularly seem to appreciate how it strikes that perfect balance between excitement and having a peaceful place to retreat to.
The Rooms
The rooms at Riu Plaza New York Times Square are what I’d call smart-sized for Manhattan — they’re not huge, but they’re thoughtfully designed so nothing feels cramped. The beds are genuinely comfortable (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in NYC hotels), and the bathrooms are modern with good water pressure. What really impressed me was the soundproofing — considering you’re in one of the busiest neighborhoods in the world, you can actually get a decent night’s sleep. The city views from higher floors are pretty spectacular, especially at night when everything’s lit up.
Dining and Amenities
The hotel’s restaurant serves solid American cuisine, though honestly, with Hell’s Kitchen right outside your door, you’d be crazy not to explore the neighborhood’s food scene. There’s a fitness center that’s well-equipped enough for a good workout, and the business facilities are reliable if you need to get some work done. The rooftop area offers some nice views, and it’s a good spot to decompress after a day of sightseeing — you know what I mean, sometimes you just need a quiet moment away from the street-level energy.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back to this place is how it manages to feel like a proper New York hotel experience without the pretension or the astronomical prices of some Midtown properties. You’re getting quality accommodations in an unbeatable location, with staff who actually know the neighborhood and can point you toward hidden gems. The fact that it consistently rates so highly with couples tells you something — it’s got that sweet spot of being exciting enough for a special trip but comfortable enough that you’re not constantly stressed about logistics or comfort.
