I’ll be honest – when I first walked into NH Collection New York Madison Avenue, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. It’s tucked on East 38th Street in Murray Hill, and the building itself is pretty understated compared to some of the flashier hotels you see around Midtown. But you know what? That actually turned out to be one of its best qualities.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re in the real New York without being constantly surrounded by tourists taking selfies. Murray Hill has this great residential vibe – you’ll see actual New Yorkers walking their dogs and grabbing coffee, not just people clutching maps and looking lost. The four-star property is literally a five-minute walk from Grand Central, which I mean, come on – you can’t beat that for getting around the city. And here’s something most people don’t realize: you’re also super close to the Morgan Library, which is this incredible hidden gem that most visitors completely miss.
The rooms themselves surprised me. They’re not huge (this is Manhattan, after all), but they’re designed really smartly – lots of built-in storage and these great floor-to-ceiling windows that actually let in decent light, which is rare in this part of town. The beds are legitimately comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable, and the bathrooms have this modern minimalist thing going on that works. I stayed on the seventh floor and it was surprisingly quiet considering you’re right in the middle of everything. The staff at check-in was efficient without being robotic – they actually gave me useful recommendations for nearby restaurants instead of just handing me a generic tourist map. One small thing that bugged me was the elevator situation during busy times (mornings around 8-9 AM can be a bit of a wait), but honestly, that’s pretty typical for boutique properties in the city. What really won me over was how the hotel feels connected to the neighborhood rather than isolated from it. You’ll find yourself grabbing lunch at the little Korean place around the corner or picking up groceries at the Fairway that’s walking distance away. It’s got that sweet spot of being centrally located but not feeling like you’re staying in Times Square chaos – and trust me, your sanity will thank you for that choice.

Excellent stay if you want to be in Midtown
Property has been completely renovated. Hotel is centrally located in midtown Manhattan. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff is very friendly and evening live jazz is a great perk!
What could be improved: Nothing to complain about
An ideal hotel for New York
Location, cleanliness.
Staff were very friendly.
The shower and the toiletries and the bath robe! However, there were two of us with only one robe!
There was also a fridge, a Nespresso machine, and a kettle.
There were a lot of mirrors and plenty of plug sockets.
The bar area was nice.
What could be improved: I was sharing a room with my son, and we expected the room to be a bit bigger, like in some of the pictures. It was compact.
The air conditioning was noisy.
There were no cups or glasses. Only paper cups.
We didn't have hand towels on the first day.
Unfortunately, we asked to upgrade, but nothing was available. We were given 2 drinks vouchers, but this didn't really compensate.
After paying for the upgraded view, this was disappointing.
The price was expensive for what we received.
Great place to stay. We loved it

Exceptional
Very great location and staff.
What could be improved: -
The reception staff were all fantastic. The rooming Director Fredrick was exceptionally sensitive to customer needs and
Centrally located to connect to the rest of NYC. The Serafina Italian restaurant was very good and breakfast was fantastic. Staff were amazing. The hotel staff are all friendly and helpful. The hotel reception was calming and welcoming with a beautiful fragrance that meets you on arrival. The beauty of the reception area takes you away from confining yourself to your room. It was spacious with relaxing furniture all around and newspaper as well.
What could be improved: Nothing bad to report
