I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Pestana CR7 Times Square, I was a bit skeptical. A soccer star’s hotel in one of the busiest neighborhoods in Manhattan? But after staying there, I get it. This four-star spot actually manages to feel both sleek and welcoming, which isn’t easy to pull off when you’re literally in Hell’s Kitchen with all that energy buzzing around you constantly.
The location on West 39th is pretty brilliant, actually. You’re close enough to Times Square that you can walk there in about five minutes (and trust me, sometimes you want that tourist experience), but you’re just far enough removed that you’re not dealing with the absolute chaos 24/7. I mean, New York is never truly quiet, but this stretch feels more manageable. Plus, you’ve got some fantastic local spots nearby – there’s this little coffee place around the corner that locals hit up, and the whole Hell’s Kitchen food scene is right at your doorstep. The subway access is solid too, which matters when you’re trying to get around the city without spending a fortune on cabs.
What surprised me most was how the CR7 branding works without being overwhelming. Yeah, there are soccer touches throughout, but it’s done tastefully – think sleek design elements rather than a sports bar vibe. The rooms are modern and comfortable, with these floor-to-ceiling windows that actually let in decent light (not always a given in Manhattan). The fitness center is legitimately good, which makes sense given the brand connection, and I appreciated that they didn’t skimp on the equipment. Check-in was smooth, and the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood well – they gave me solid restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. One small thing that stuck with me: the lobby has this energy that feels more boutique hotel than corporate chain, even though Pestana is a pretty established group. You know what I mean? It’s got personality. The only minor downside is that parking isn’t cheap, but honestly, that’s true everywhere in this part of town, and you probably don’t need a car anyway. If you’re looking for something that feels contemporary and well-located without the sky-high prices of some Times Square properties, this place delivers more than I expected it would.
Hotel in New York booking should be done early, especially during holiday seasons when the city hosts internationally celebrated events and concerts at Madison Square Garden and other iconic venues.

Great hotel with excellent staff.
This was our second two night stay after having been away from Manhattan for a couple of nights. The hotel stored some of our luggage for us while we were away and even managed to arrange for us to have the same room for our second stay as we had for our first stay. In my previous review I said how great the hotel and the staff are. Highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Manhattan.
Perfect for a stay in Manhattan
We chose this hotel because it's close to Penn Station and the Port Authority Bus Terminal, and we were very glad we did because it was perfect for a few nights in Manhattan. Our hotel room was small (which is normal for Manhattan) but had all the facilities we needed including extremely comfortable beds. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and made us feel valued. We needed to leave some luggage with them and that was no problem at all. We enjoyed the complimentary bagels in the morning and the excellent coffee that was available all day. The little courtyard was the perfect place to have breakfast. Would highly recommend this hotel.
Fabulous hotel, brilliant staff and super clean!
Fabulous hotel. We were apprehensive after a previous visit to Manhattan and the hotel was absolutely not as advertised and very run down. But this one was everything it said on the booking and more. The room was quite compact but super clean, and refreshed daily. The bed so comfortable, which was absolutely needed at the end of a long day! The hotel itself was an Ideal location for us and the staff were fantastic, so friendly, and nothing was too much trouble. One particular staff member (unfortunately did not get her name) but she checked us in, and was there for most of our stay, unfortunately wasn't there on checking out so didn't get to thank her for being so welcoming. There were some really nice touches like iced water in reception to fill water bottles, and coffee and bagels in the morning. We were told it was first come first served but we never had them run out while we were there. Lwe had a brilliant stay and would definitely be back!
What could be improved: With the room being quite small the air con unit was close to the bed and quite noisy/powerful so needed switching to auto/off on a night for us as I am unable to sleep with too much noise, but it didn't get unbearably warm so wasn't a huge issue. Also the water pressure in the shower was a bit rubbish, but again not a huge issue and we would absolutely book this hotel again!

The room was very clean (and also the rest of the hotel). The staff were nice, helpful and welcoming. The location is great, and although it is situated in a noisy area, the room was very quiet. We enjoyed the coffee machine and the morning bagels and had absolutely zero problems waiting for the elevator (our room was on the 24th floor).
What could be improved: The only thing I would improve is the water pressure in the shower. It was manageable, so we did not complain to the staff, but it was not great.
