We love staying on the upper west side. This location is a little more into the neighborhood, very near the Apollo theater, off some busy streets/area although the actual location is quiet. It may be intimidating for some, but this was the type of NY experience we were looking for on our fifth visit to town (we've done mid town) and we like walking and seeing new things. We walked to St. John the Divine and upper Central Park and were able to easily grab the A or C trains downtown for all of our other destinations at 125th. No, it's not a "mansion" (some have harshed on this in other reviews) but it is a charming old brownstone with some of the quirks of old places (fairly steep squeaky narrow stairs) and it is furnished with boho and eclectic period pieces but this is all part of the charm. It certainly feels special compared to any other type of cookie cutter hotel. Our host did a great job of welcoming us and pointing out all of the amenities and we had a very nice, comfortable stay. Access to a fridge and kitchen was a nice plus.

Unique and interesting place to stay, feels a bit like staying at a friends' place. The main floor is very beautifully restored to its early XX. century state. I had great conversations with guests on both mornings - it seems to be frequented by academic types.

We did enjoy our stay at Northern Lights Mansion. Our room was clean and spacious with a private bathroom and aircon. The kitchen is well equipped and we were given complimentary water and coffee throughout our stay. The house is 5 minutes from the subway and we felt safe in the neighborhood.

Our host, Ron, was really friendly and welcoming. The house itself was very nice and the kitchen was well equipped. There was also an espresso machine, which we very much appreciated. The bathtub was gorgeous, and the beds were comfortable. The shared areas were really nice and comfy, and we felt at home.

The only problems I had with this property was the finicky door handle to the Royal suite. Other than that, everything was great. The staff was friendly and helpful when I got stuck outside my door lol. Overall, good experience

Staff and communication were great; they went above and beyond. Beds were comfortable. Water pressure great. Room was spacious for NYC.
