You know what really surprised me about The Gardens Sonesta ES Suites New York? It’s tucked away on this quiet stretch of East 64th Street where you’d never expect to find such a solid hotel option. I mean, most people think Upper East Side automatically means stuffy or overpriced, but this place actually strikes a pretty nice balance.
The whole extended-stay suite setup works brilliantly even if you’re just staying a few nights – having a real kitchenette and separate living area makes such a difference when you’re trying to decompress after walking all over New York. The four-star rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be the Plaza, but everything works well and the staff genuinely seems to care. I’ve stayed there twice now, and both times the front desk remembered little things from my previous visit, which honestly doesn’t happen much anymore. The rooms are larger than you’d expect for Manhattan – I could actually spread out my stuff without feeling cramped, and the beds are properly comfortable, not just hotel-acceptable.
What I really appreciate is how they’ve positioned themselves in the neighborhood. You’re close enough to Central Park that you can be there in five minutes, but you’re also right near all those great little restaurants on Lexington and Third Avenue that locals actually go to. The 6 train at 68th Street is your friend for getting downtown quickly, and if you need groceries, there’s a decent market just a couple blocks north. Parking is available but pricey – though that’s true everywhere in this part of town, so no surprise there. The area gets pretty quiet at night, which is perfect if you’re trying to actually sleep, but it also means things shut down early if you’re looking for late-night action. The building itself has this understated elegance thing going on – nothing flashy, just well-maintained and thoughtfully designed. Their little fitness center is better equipped than I expected, and the business center saved me when I needed to print boarding passes at 6 AM. One small thing that bugged me – the Wi-Fi could be stronger in some rooms, especially if you’re trying to work from the bedroom area. But overall, it’s one of those places where you can tell they’re paying attention to the details that actually matter to travelers rather than just throwing money at flashy lobbies or unnecessary amenities.

Great location, very helpful & friendly staff, generous room size

It was a very pleasant and comfortable stay, in a very good location on the Upper East Side.
The room had a very good size including a kitchen and a living room and the bed was very big and comfortable.
What could be improved: I would prefer if there was more light in the room, or if we could be at a higher floor to have a better view and more light.
