Nine Orchard
Look, I've stayed at a lot of places in Manhattan, but Nine Orchard honestly caught me off guard in the best possible way.
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Manhattan, but Nine Orchard honestly caught me off guard in the best possible way. You know how most four-star hotels in New York either feel like they’re trying way too hard or they’re stuck in some beige corporate time warp? This place is neither – it’s got this really thoughtful, almost residential vibe that makes you feel like you’re crashing at a impossibly well-designed friend’s apartment rather than just another hotel room.
The location on Orchard Street is actually brilliant if you think about it. I mean, you’re right there where the Lower East Side energy meets Chinatown, and honestly, the neighborhood has this incredible food scene that most tourists completely miss. I grabbed hand-pulled noodles literally around the corner at 2 AM one night – try doing that from your Midtown hotel. The building itself has this really interesting history (it used to be tenements), and they’ve done something pretty remarkable with the renovation. The rooms have these floor-to-ceiling windows that flood everything with light, which is sort of a miracle given how narrow these old streets are. What really got me though was the attention to detail – the custom furniture, the way they’ve incorporated local art, even the bathroom fixtures feel considered rather than just picked from some hotel supply catalog.
Service-wise, the staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. When I asked about getting to Brooklyn for a dinner reservation, the front desk guy didn’t just say “take the subway” – he walked me through which entrance to use at East Broadway and warned me about weekend service changes. The rooftop situation is pretty special too, especially if you time it right around sunset when you can see the Manhattan Bridge lit up. I will say the elevators are a bit slow (old building problems), and if you’re on a lower floor facing Orchard Street, it can get a little lively on weekend nights – but honestly, that’s part of the charm of staying down here rather than in some sterile hotel district. The whole experience feels authentic to what this part of the city actually is, which is energetic and a little gritty and absolutely worth experiencing.

Guest Reviews
Very Good
Excellent hotel, friendly staff, great room.
What could be improved: Our room was very expensive, but we also booked late.
The staff serving the free breakfast was not up to the otherwise excellent standard of the hotel. They seemed inexperience and unfamiliar with basic breakfast norms. Coffee was served with milk but no spoon to stir. Basic requests like "sweetener" took 10 minutes. They seemed surprised that one would want more than one coffee. Food came out but then utensils took 5 additional minutes.
Exceptional
The design, staff, location, and everything was amazing
What could be improved: Breakfast was okay
Favorite place in NY
A truly gorgeous hotel, full of character and beautiful details. The bed is very comfortable, and I especially loved the music in the room - such a thoughtful touch, with the perfect playlist. Breakfast was delicious, and the breakfast hall was everything. I’m still thinking about that big painting on the wall! Definitely coming back!
What could be improved: I arrived an hour after the check in time, but my room still wasn’t ready. Unfortunately, I had to wait for almost another hour. As an apology, the staff offered me complimentary room service with anything on the menu. I had dinner, and it was delicious. Thanks again!
Excellent
The breakfast was amazing! Room was wonderful and the staff couldn’t have been better. They also have a coffee and tea bar in the morning. This is our second stay here and it is now our first choice New York hotel!
What could be improved: Nothing!
Very good experience overall
- Excellent restaurant and breakfast.
- Comfortable rooms.
- No noise, despite the loud street outside at night.
- Great hotel design.
What could be improved: - There was a lack of storage space.
- During cleaning, they stored my belongings in places I couldn't find afterward and seemed to have accidentally thrown out one of the dust bags for my shoes.
- There was no tea or coffee machine in the room.
very positive
The hotel service is really excellent, clean and the room was big.
The top floor private terrace is gorgeous and should be available for everybody.
What could be improved: Lobby too small, and the price compared to the common areas available too high.
Beautiful hotel
The hotel is gorgeous, the rooms are well appointed but small. The house keeping is kind and courteous - the staff are good and the food is amazing. Would 100% stay again even if the area is a little touch and go. Still worth it!
Boutique perfection
Wonderful experience - the a la carte breakfast in the gorgeous dining room was the absolute best. Hotel has loads of atmosphere and the lounge, complete with roaring fire, was perfect after a day out exploring NYC in the wintry weather. Rooms on the small side, but that is par for the course in NYC and perfectly laid out within their small footprint. The daily cookies and water were very much appreciated. Would definitely return.
What could be improved: Nothing
Enjoyable stay
The hotel had a welcoming atmosphere and all the hotel staff were friendly and attentive. Our room on the 11th floor was nice with a great bathroom. Liked the choice of the restaurant or bar for breakfast and the cocktails in the evening were appreciated. The complimentary wine between 5 and 6 in the evening was a nice thought in the East Room. The location downtown on the edge of chinatown suited us. The hotel was very well run and seemed genuinely interested in us and made us very welcome.
What could be improved: Everything was fine
Wonderful
Elegance and best hotel staff in NYC!
