Andaz 5th Avenue, By Hyatt
You know what caught me off guard about Andaz 5th Avenue, By Hyatt?
You know what caught me off guard about Andaz 5th Avenue, By Hyatt? Walking in, I expected another sterile business hotel, but this place actually has personality. The lobby feels more like a sleek apartment building than your typical Midtown crash pad – there’s this warm, lived-in vibe that’s honestly refreshing in a city where most hotels feel like they’re trying too hard.
The location is pretty much perfect if you’re doing the classic New York thing. I mean, you’re literally steps from the main branch of the New York Public Library, and Bryant Park is right there when you need to escape the madness for five minutes. What I really appreciated though was how walkable everything felt – not just the obvious tourist spots, but actual neighborhoods. Hell’s Kitchen is an easy stroll west when you want real food instead of tourist trap restaurants, and Grand Central is close enough that you can actually use it (unlike some Midtown hotels where you’re stuck taking expensive cabs everywhere). The rooms in this four-star spot are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than flashy. They’ve got these floor-to-ceiling windows that make even the smaller rooms feel spacious, and honestly, the beds are fantastic. The bathrooms are modern without being cold – nice rain showers, decent counter space for all your stuff. One thing that surprised me was how quiet it stays, even being right on 5th Avenue. I was expecting constant sirens and honking, but the soundproofing is actually solid.
Here’s what I wish someone had told me before booking: the elevators can be slow during busy times, especially when there’s a big corporate group staying there. Also, while the on-site dining is decent, you’re paying Manhattan hotel prices for what’s essentially good-but-not-amazing food. But you know what? With all the incredible restaurants within walking distance, that’s hardly a dealbreaker. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood well too – I got better restaurant recommendations from the front desk than I did from most travel blogs. They pointed me toward this tiny ramen place in Koreatown that I never would have found otherwise. The fitness center is small but well-equipped, and there’s something satisfying about working out while looking out at the city. Parking is expensive (this is Midtown, so duh), but the valet service is efficient if you’re driving for some reason. Overall, it’s one of those places that just works – not necessarily because of any single amazing feature, but because all the pieces fit together nicely. It feels like staying in New York rather than just visiting it, if that makes sense.

What could be improved: Lobby is quite tiny and lacks space to relax.
Not so inviting.
Rather expensive, value for money is above average but not great.

Amazing location and views. Perfect family choice
Fantastic room with views over the public library, empire state and Bryant park. We stayed as a family of 4 and had the best time in the 2-bedroom suite. The staff were lovely and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. We stayed for 1 week and could have stayed longer. Definitely recommend.
What could be improved: Lacked lighting but really a very minor issue
