Delta Hotels by Marriott New York Times Square

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Delta Hotels by Marriott New York Times Square, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, it’s a Marriott in the thick of tourist central, right? But this four-star spot on West 40th actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby has this unexpectedly calm vibe despite being literally steps from all the Times Square madness, and the staff seemed genuinely happy to see guests rather than just going through the motions.

What really got me was the location – and I know everyone says that about New York hotels, but hear me out. You’re in Hell’s Kitchen, which means you can duck out of the tourist chaos in about two minutes flat and find yourself on 9th or 10th Avenue where actual New Yorkers eat and drink. There’s this fantastic little Colombian place around the corner that I stumbled onto after my second night, and honestly, that’s the kind of discovery that makes a trip memorable. The hotel itself sits right where the neighborhood starts to feel more residential, so you get the best of both worlds – easy access to Broadway shows and Times Square craziness, but you can also grab a decent cup of coffee without fighting through crowds of people taking selfies.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a modern Marriott, but done well. Mine faced west toward the Hudson, and I could actually see a sliver of water if I pressed my face against the window – not exactly a river view, but better than staring at another building’s brick wall. The beds are legitimately comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the shower pressure is strong enough to wake you up after a late night exploring the city. What I really appreciated were the little touches – USB ports that actually work, blackout curtains that really block out light, and a mini-fridge that doesn’t make weird humming noises all night. The neighborhood can get a bit noisy with traffic and late-night revelers, but it’s New York, you know? If you wanted quiet, you’d go to Vermont. Plus, the windows do a decent job of muffling most of the street sounds. I’d definitely stay here again – it hits that sweet spot of being comfortable and well-located without feeling overpriced or sterile like some of the bigger chain hotels closer to the action.
