First Impressions
Walking up to Pestana Park Avenue on East 39th Street, you immediately get that “I made the right choice” feeling. This four-star hotel sits perfectly in Murray Hill — honestly, it’s one of those spots where you feel like you’re in the real New York without being overwhelmed by tourist chaos. The building has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually appreciate more than those flashy Midtown giants.
Location That Actually Makes Sense
Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re literally minutes from Grand Central (I mean, it’s a quick walk), but you’re not dealing with the madness of Times Square crowds every time you step outside. Murray Hill is sort of this sweet spot where actual New Yorkers live and work, so you get authentic neighborhood vibes. Bryant Park is close enough for morning coffee runs, and when couples rate the location 9.7, well… they’re not wrong. You can easily walk to the Empire State Building — it’s right there — but you’re also close enough to hop on the subway and be anywhere in the city within minutes.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you want after a long day of walking around the city — clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. The windows actually open (which is rarer than you’d think in NYC hotels), and depending on which side you’re on, you might catch glimpses of the city skyline. The beds are genuinely comfortable — not just hotel marketing comfortable — and the bathrooms are modern without being sterile. You know what really impressed me? The little details, like decent lighting for actually reading and enough outlets where you need them.
Neighborhood Perks
Murray Hill has this great mix of local spots that tourists usually miss. There’s a fantastic Korean barbecue place just a few blocks away, and some really solid delis where you can grab proper New York sandwiches without paying tourist prices. The restaurant scene around here is actually pretty diverse — you’ve got everything from hole-in-the-wall gems to upscale spots for special dinners. I found myself walking to different neighborhoods for dinner just because the subway connections are so good from here, but honestly, you could stay local and eat well for your entire trip.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the fanciest hotel in the city, but it gets the fundamentals absolutely right. The staff actually seems to care about helping you have a good time in New York rather than just checking boxes. The location score of 9.7 isn’t just a number — it reflects how easy this place makes everything else about your trip. You’re close to major attractions but far enough from the chaos to actually relax when you need to. Plus, there’s something to be said for staying somewhere that feels more like a well-run neighborhood hotel than a corporate machine. When you’re spending most of your time exploring the city anyway, having a solid, well-located base like Pestana Park Avenue just makes everything else fall into place.

Guest Reviews
nice. comfortable stay. restful sleep in the middle of a busy city. elite staff
pastries for breakfast were very good. croissants and bagels
What could be improved: only problem was coffee machine had issues on two mornings. would be nice for normal drip coffee at breakfast.
Great, solid stay overall.
Location, comfort & staff were great.
What could be improved: Wi-Fi was very poor, no Netflix on the Tv, no small wardrobe in the room (you need to hand your close on a very small rack, just enough for 5 hangars at the most).
Wonderful
The location is awesome. It was great to have a kitchen and terrace area with some refreshments such as apples and coffee offered for free. The rooms were small but the room well optimised and the beds comfortable.
What could be improved: The shower had a low water power and it was rather dark since the neighbouring buildings were very close.
Exceptional
Service staff were exceptionally helpful. Location is central to areas we visited. Room was smartly designed
Good
The location was good
The free coffee
The size of the room and the steamer
What could be improved: Not a lot of light in the room
Excellent!
The staff is very friendly and always willing to help you with whatever you need.
Exceptional
First time in New York travelling solo, great location near central terminal. Very clean and tidy. No Breakfast as such but down stairs in the morning was coffee and bagels and croissants, enough to fill me up. Room was on the small side as it was only me there it was okay. Bed was very comfortable. Had a view of the Empire State Building
What could be improved: Probably the only thing was the small size of the room. King with a view.
Great place to stay. Easy access to and from the city and trains
Staff was great! Front desk guy always greeted us
What could be improved: Bagels run out pretty early in the morning
Memorable
Just about everything.
What could be improved: I would add some sweet pastries to the complimentary breakfast.
Pleasant all the way around
Cheerful, comfortable, quiet, clean and efficient rooms. Staff were super friendly, location is unbeatable, and value was great
What could be improved: Rooms were small, but hey it’s New York
