Pestana Park Avenue
I'll be honest – when I first walked into Pestana Park Avenue, I wasn't sure what to expect from a Portuguese hotel chain in the middle of Manhattan.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Pestana Park Avenue, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a Portuguese hotel chain in the middle of Manhattan. But you know what? This place actually surprised me in the best way. The lobby has this warm, almost residential feel that’s completely different from the typical glass-and-steel vibe you get at most four-star hotels in the city. There’s something refreshingly understated about it, like they’re not trying too hard to impress you with marble everything.
The location on 39th Street is honestly pretty brilliant – you’re right in Murray Hill, which I mean, isn’t the most exciting neighborhood, but that’s actually kind of perfect. You’re close enough to walk to Bryant Park and the Library in about ten minutes, and Grand Central is literally right there when you need to hop on the subway or catch a train out of town. I stayed here during Fashion Week once, and while Midtown was absolute chaos, this little corner felt surprisingly calm. The building itself has some character too – it’s not one of those towering glass boxes, so you actually get a sense of being in New York rather than just floating above it.
What really won me over though was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood. When I asked about dinner spots, instead of pointing me toward some tourist trap, they sent me to this little Turkish place around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms are comfortable without being flashy – good beds, decent bathrooms, and the air conditioning actually works properly (which, honestly, isn’t always a given in older Manhattan buildings). I will say the elevators are a bit slow, but that just gives you time to chat with other guests, and I’ve had some interesting conversations that way. The breakfast situation is solid too – nothing fancy, but they get the coffee right, and there’s usually something that isn’t just pastries and sad fruit. If you’re someone who needs to be right in Times Square or SoHo, this might feel a bit out of the way, but for me, having a quiet base where I could actually sleep and then easily get anywhere in the city was exactly what I wanted.

nice. comfortable stay. restful sleep in the middle of a busy city. elite staff
pastries for breakfast were very good. croissants and bagels
What could be improved: only problem was coffee machine had issues on two mornings. would be nice for normal drip coffee at breakfast.
Great, solid stay overall.
Location, comfort & staff were great.
What could be improved: Wi-Fi was very poor, no Netflix on the Tv, no small wardrobe in the room (you need to hand your close on a very small rack, just enough for 5 hangars at the most).
Wonderful
The location is awesome. It was great to have a kitchen and terrace area with some refreshments such as apples and coffee offered for free. The rooms were small but the room well optimised and the beds comfortable.
What could be improved: The shower had a low water power and it was rather dark since the neighbouring buildings were very close.
Exceptional
Service staff were exceptionally helpful. Location is central to areas we visited. Room was smartly designed
Good
The location was good
The free coffee
The size of the room and the steamer
What could be improved: Not a lot of light in the room
Excellent!
The staff is very friendly and always willing to help you with whatever you need.
Exceptional
First time in New York travelling solo, great location near central terminal. Very clean and tidy. No Breakfast as such but down stairs in the morning was coffee and bagels and croissants, enough to fill me up. Room was on the small side as it was only me there it was okay. Bed was very comfortable. Had a view of the Empire State Building
What could be improved: Probably the only thing was the small size of the room. King with a view.
Great place to stay. Easy access to and from the city and trains
Staff was great! Front desk guy always greeted us
What could be improved: Bagels run out pretty early in the morning
Memorable
Just about everything.
What could be improved: I would add some sweet pastries to the complimentary breakfast.
Pleasant all the way around
Cheerful, comfortable, quiet, clean and efficient rooms. Staff were super friendly, location is unbeatable, and value was great
What could be improved: Rooms were small, but hey it’s New York
