Hyatt Grand Central New York

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Hyatt Grand Central New York, I wasn’t expecting much. I mean, it’s right there on 42nd Street with all the tourist chaos, and you can practically feel the vibration from the subway rumbling beneath your feet. But you know what? That location actually becomes its biggest asset once you figure out the rhythm of the place.
The thing about staying here is that you’re literally above Grand Central Terminal – and I don’t mean that metaphorically. You can hear the faint echo of announcements if you really listen, which some people might find annoying, but honestly, there’s something pretty magical about falling asleep to the subtle hum of one of the world’s great train stations. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a four-star place – clean, comfortable, nothing revolutionary but definitely solid. The beds are actually quite good (I’m picky about mattresses), and the blackout curtains work well, which matters when you’re dealing with all those New York neon lights bleeding through windows.
What really surprised me was how the staff seemed to genuinely understand the kind of travelers who end up here. They’re not dealing with resort guests who have all day to figure things out – people staying at this Hyatt are usually in the city for business or cramming a lot into a short trip. The front desk folks are quick with directions, they know which subway entrance is least crowded during rush hour (hint: it’s not the main one everyone uses), and they actually have decent recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps. The concierge told me about a little coffee place on Lexington that I never would have found otherwise. And here’s a practical thing that matters – the elevators are fast, which sounds trivial until you’re rushing to catch a train and don’t want to wait five minutes just to get downstairs. The whole experience feels efficient without being impersonal, if that makes sense. Sure, you’re not getting some boutique hotel charm, but when you step outside and you’re a two-minute walk from basically anywhere you need to go in Midtown, those trade-offs start to feel pretty reasonable.

Nice place, fantastic location, not great value for money.
The location was excellent
What could be improved: Room was small, the hotel shop was expensive. The check in staff advised of a late check out time and cost as we had a late flight out, but later, when we tried to take that offer we were told no such offer exists, just disappointing.
the location is perfect
the staff were very friendly and helpful
What could be improved: the lobby is too dark
The *ugly* side of New-York
The location
What could be improved: The room tucked away in a corner… clean but no charm… I hated having to pay for a « destination fee= more than 40$ » which does NOT as they state « enhance the guest experience ». It is simply a rip off… and I am polite… and this for each day of the stay… what a shame! And when I question this I was just told with a sarcastic smile : « this is New-York »
Best stay in New York, ever!
Everything.
What could be improved: Nothing really for kids.
On the whole, it was perfectly fine,
Room was fine.
What could be improved: The lobby was very badly overheated when we checked in at about 22:00. There was only one person working at the reception desk. Although there were only three parties ahead of us, it took nearly a half hour before we began the checkin process. It was especially difficult because the lobby was so hot. We had to take off our coats and sweaters.
Location and employee excellent
Staff
What could be improved: Absence of a restaurant
It’s was at the perfect location but for the price I was expecting to have a kettle to make tea or coffee in the room.
Location and clean room, quick check in and out
What could be improved: No coffee/tea making facilities in the room and water bottles and also the luggage storage charged $4 per piece.
Very enjoyable
Location
What could be improved: Elevator problem
Excellent accommodations at a high price, with ridiculous add-ons to make the price even higher.
Fast elevators, friendly maids, early check-in, room size
What could be improved: bathroom fixtures were a bit worn, but fully functional
door to GCT's indoor passage was locked at 9PM
High price, plus many add-ons, including a "Destination Fee" (wExhat the heck is that?)
Great location, but was not a fan of the charging to hold luggage
It’s in a great location and very accessible for walking around
What could be improved: My bathroom didn’t have wash cloths, the charging to hold luggage for people checking out and having to wait for their departure. The charging of $4 per luggage item was very expensive for people that travel with young kids
