Grayson Hotel

You know what surprised me most about the Grayson Hotel?

You know what surprised me most about the Grayson Hotel? It’s actually got this understated elegance that you don’t expect on a bustling stretch of 39th Street. I mean, you’re literally surrounded by the Garment District hustle – fabric shops, wholesale jewelry stores, people wheeling racks of clothes down the sidewalk – but step inside and there’s this immediate sense of calm. The lobby has this warm, residential feel with dark wood and soft lighting that makes you forget you’re in the middle of Manhattan’s organized chaos.

The four-star rating honestly feels about right here. The rooms aren’t huge (this is New York, after all), but they’re smartly designed with clean lines and surprisingly good soundproofing considering you’re just a few blocks from Times Square. I stayed on the seventh floor facing west, and yeah, you get some street noise during the day, but it settles down nicely in the evenings. What I really appreciated was the attention to details – the bedding is actually comfortable, not just pretty, and the bathroom products don’t smell like generic hotel soap. Small things, but they matter when you’re trying to decompress after walking twenty thousand steps around the city.

Location-wise, this place is kind of perfect if you want to be close to everything without being in the thick of tourist madness. You’re a ten-minute walk to Times Square if that’s your thing, but you’re also right near some genuinely good local spots that most visitors miss entirely. There’s this little Korean place around the corner on 38th that stays open late, and honestly, the coffee cart guy on the corner of 39th and Broadway makes better coffee than half the fancy cafes in SoHo. The hotel staff seemed to know this stuff too – they gave me actual neighborhood recommendations instead of just pointing toward the obvious tourist traps. Parking is what you’d expect in Midtown (expensive and scarce), but the subway access is solid with multiple lines within easy walking distance. I ended up using the B,D,F,M at 42nd Street most of the time, which gets you pretty much anywhere you need to go. The whole experience felt less like staying at a corporate hotel and more like having a well-connected friend let you crash at their really nice apartment in a neighborhood they actually know.

Great location for easy access to transit for exploring all 5 NYC boroughs.

Location can’t be beat. Close to the Yellow, orange, red, green, and purple lines with walkable distance to LIRR, Penn, and Central Station. Plenty of food options are within walking distance as is Bryant Park.

What could be improved: While not a huge issue, we needed to request items for the room like a refrigerator (which was advertised).

Excellent stay, comfortable, very good looking place.

Loved the style, modern, cozy. Everything was clean and it was so comfortable. Loved the breakfast.

What could be improved: Other than one unfriendly receptionist on one occasion, every employee was helpful and very nice!

Very Good

Staff were welcoming & their assistance was helpful. The location was great - love the Bryant Park area. Loved the rooftop bar, CIMA

What could be improved: Handicap room shower left water all over the floor after use. We had to use many towels to keep our feet dry afterwards

Very Good

Very comfortable beds and friendly staff. Great location - walking distance to the Theatre District and various tourist locations.

What could be improved: Very loud AC. Had to sleep with TV on to drown it out.

Exceptional

The location is wonderful, the view from the room and rooftop were attractions themselves, and the room was clean and comfortable for a good price. The staff were helpful and accommodating. The gentleman at the desk (I believe his name was Josh) was super friendly and respectful.

Phenomenal stay secondary to service and beauty

It’s been a while since I’ve stayed in a hotel since I usually Airbnb, but this hotel far exceeded my expectations. The service was impeccable. Everyone was efficient and quick to help make my stay as comfortable as possible!! This personal touch made me certain I would come here again over an Airbnb any visit to NYC I ever make again. It’s in midtown, so central to pretty much everything. We walked everywhere and parked our car in their connected and discounted garage having driven from Boston. Was really surprised and impressed by the level of beauty and comfort this stay provided. Five stars without a doubt!!!
