First Impressions
Walking up to the DoubleTree by Hilton New York Downtown on Stone Street, you’re immediately struck by how this four-star hotel manages to feel both polished and approachable. The lobby has that signature DoubleTree warmth — you know, the kind where they actually hand you a chocolate chip cookie at check-in (honestly, it never gets old). What really caught my attention was the location itself — Stone Street is this charming cobblestone stretch that feels almost European, which is pretty rare to find in the Financial District.
The Neighborhood Advantage
Here’s what I love about staying in this part of New York — you’re literally surrounded by history, but you’re also incredibly well-connected to everything else. The South Street Seaport is just a few blocks away, and you can walk to Brooklyn Bridge in about ten minutes. During the day, the area buzzes with business energy, but evenings actually get quite peaceful since most of the office workers head home. The couples who stay here seem to really get it — there’s something romantic about wandering these historic streets after dark, especially when you can pop into one of the nearby wine bars.
Sleep Quality That Actually Delivers
I’ll be straight with you — the room isn’t the largest you’ll find in the city, but the bed situation is genuinely impressive. The mattresses have this perfect balance where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed whole. The blackout curtains work well too, which matters when you’re trying to sleep past sunrise in a city that never stops. Air conditioning runs quietly, and the windows actually open if you prefer fresh air — a small detail that makes a bigger difference than you’d think.
Morning Fuel
The breakfast setup here is pretty solid — they do a buffet style that covers all the basics without trying to be fancy about it. Fresh fruit, decent coffee, eggs made to order, and yes, there are bagels (because this is New York, after all). The restaurant space gets good natural light in the morning, and I actually enjoyed sitting there with my coffee, watching Stone Street come alive with the morning rush. It’s not included in every rate, but honestly, the quality justifies the price when you factor in what breakfast costs elsewhere in the Financial District.
Why Guests Love It
What keeps people coming back here isn’t just one thing — it’s how everything works together. The staff genuinely seems to care about your experience, the location puts you right in the heart of historic Manhattan without the Times Square chaos, and you get reliable Hilton standards without paying Midtown prices. The parking situation is manageable too, which anyone who’s driven in lower Manhattan will appreciate. Sure, it’s not the flashiest hotel in the city, but sometimes you want a place that just gets the fundamentals right while giving you easy access to everything that makes New York special.
Early hotels booking in New York requires advance planning during peak seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s Broadway shows, world-class shopping, and American cultural attractions.

Works…
Good location, clean.
What could be improved: Elevators too slow, a/c is a challenge of cold/hot night
Short yet memorable trip
The property was clean, accessible by Metro transit with safe surroundings
What could be improved: The room could have been slightly bigger but with NewYork, it is understandable
Nice hotel but
The complimentary cookie and water, fantastic location.
What could be improved: The restaurant was awful, the lifts are too small and always busy.
The stay met all of our expectations, we felt welcome and at peace, as there were no inconveniences.
Welcoming and thoughtful staff, great cleaning service, very comfortable beds which enabled us to have a restful stay, very clean restroom with access to cosmetics, enough space in the room. Overall, one of the best stays i ever had.
What could be improved: Inability to open the windows, however it is understandable at such heights (30th floor)
Wonderful
Great location, great views from the room (41st floor)
What could be improved: Not enough elevators, long waiting times to get to our floor and back.
Location was good, especially to get on the subway.
Location and good firm bed and helpful staff.
What could be improved: No parking with the hotel, no complimentary breakfast, and it takes quite a while to wait for the elevator to go down.
Good
Easy access to the subway and food options. Walking distance to all downtown attractions.
What could be improved: 3 lifts was not enough to service the building, you could wait 15 minutes to get downstairs
A comfortable stay overall, though some infrastructure issues affected the experience.
The room was comfortable and the beds were cozy. The location was central, making it easy to reach nearby attractions. We appreciated the cleanliness and layout of the rooms. The staff at reception were helpful and check-in was smooth.
What could be improved: Noise from the corridor was clearly audible inside the room, which was disturbing. The number of elevators was insufficient, leading to long wait times. Also, the check-in time was quite late, which made it hard to settle in after a long journey.
Very nice and clean hotel.
Clean, great neighborhood
What could be improved: Nothing
