Hotel Scherman
I'll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel Scherman on 46th Street, I wasn't sure what to expect from this relatively quiet spot in Hell's Kitchen.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel Scherman on 46th Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this relatively quiet spot in Hell’s Kitchen. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that don’t immediately scream for attention. This four-star gem sits right in the sweet spot of the Theater District without all the tourist chaos that hits some of the flashier places.
The thing about staying here is that you’re actually in one of the most walkable pockets of New York – I mean, you can stumble to a Broadway show in about three minutes, but you’re also close enough to those amazing Hell’s Kitchen restaurants that locals actually eat at (not just the tourist traps). The hotel itself has this understated elegance that I really appreciated. The lobby feels warm without being stuffy, and honestly, the staff seemed genuinely happy to help rather than just going through the motions. My room was thoughtfully designed – nothing over the top, but everything worked perfectly, and the bed was one of those where you actually sleep well despite being in Manhattan. The soundproofing is surprisingly good too, which matters when you’re this close to the action.
What really won me over was the attention to detail that you don’t always get, even at pricier places. The elevators are quick (trust me, this matters when you’re running late for a show), there’s actually decent water pressure in the shower, and the AC doesn’t sound like a freight train. I also loved that they don’t nickel and dime you for basic stuff – the WiFi actually works throughout the building, and the business center is there when you need it without feeling like an afterthought. The location really shines during restaurant week or when you want to grab late-night food – you’ve got everything from food trucks to some seriously good ethnic spots within a few blocks. Parking can be a bit of a pain, like anywhere in this part of the city, but there are decent garage options nearby if you’re driving in. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to feel like I was staying somewhere that New Yorkers might actually recommend rather than just another place that shows up in tourist guides.

What could be improved: Everything was great. Staff, breakfast, comfortableness of bed all great
The property was amazing. The staff was very welcoming and friendly
We love the location and the decor. The staff was amazing. We were treated to a complimentary upgrade. It was spectacular.
What could be improved: Not a thing. Love it
excellent location friendly staff great breakfast lovely room
The stay was lovely in general, like the roof top terrace for sitting out and soaking up the atmosphere we has an early trip to washington arranged and staff very kindly sorted take away breakfasts for us to take...
What could be improved: tiny small moan the air conditioning fans are located outside our room, were a tiny bit noisy
Absolutely perfect
I loved that it was small and the bedrooms were big and airy The little balcony was great The breakfast was in a beautiful room The roof top terrace was a fabulous addition It was near to lots of fabulous restaurants and close to the shows and attractions The staff were fabulous and accomodating. They are happy for you to leave luggage on arrival before room is ready and as you are waiting for flights Was a great experience Thank you
Great choice if you want an excellent location and don’t like big chain hotels
The room was fantastic. The bathroom, the small living room (I was upgraded, without requesting, to a junior suite, yay!!!). The staff was really nice and welcoming too.
What could be improved: The kitchenette furniture do need a little TLC. They look a bit run down. The bathroom, although perfectly clean and nice needs some grout attention b ‘cause some parts of it look moldy…
Charming traditional and cosy hotel.
Location, spacious room, charming vintage style, comfy beds and pillows, rooftop terrace
What could be improved: Room view, room lighting, A/C right above the bed, narrow hallways, very basic breakfast.
Would definitely recommend this quaint hotel.
Very cute boutique hotel. Small but beautiful. Perfect location for the cruise terminal. Love the rooftop terrace. The shower was huge! Lots of restaurants within walking distance.
What could be improved: The one and only elevator was a little scary. Every time we got on it would drop an inch or two.
Made our short stay in NYC
Beautiful spacious room with a lovely street view. Extremely comfortable bed. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location.
What could be improved: Breakfast was only OK, but this was not an issue for us as we are not big breakfast people. Plenty of nice coffee shops very close by.
Highly recommended hotel with great staff
Beautiful little hotel in Restaurant Row about a three min walk from Times Square
What could be improved: The shower in our room wasn’t very good
Overall we enjoyed being close to the action but far away enough to not be hampered by all the Times Square noise.
Great location and the suit was a solid size.
What could be improved: Although breakfast was included, I anticipated a few more things would be available; however, with so many choices around the hotel it wasn’t a huge issue or deterrent.
