Hotel on Rivington

Look, I'll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel on Rivington, I wasn't sure what to expect.

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel on Rivington, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The Lower East Side has this weird mix of old-school tenements and sleek new spots, and this place sort of embodies that perfectly. It’s this four-star glass tower that somehow doesn’t feel totally out of place among the century-old buildings, which is actually pretty impressive if you know this neighborhood.

The thing that got me right away was the view situation – and I mean, you’re not going to get this anywhere else in New York at this price point. My room faced north and I could see all the way to Midtown, with the Chrysler Building just sitting there like a postcard. The floor-to-ceiling windows are legit massive, and honestly, I spent way too much time just staring out at the city. The rooms themselves are pretty minimalist – clean lines, dark wood, that whole boutique hotel aesthetic – but they nailed the details. The bed was one of those where you actually sleep well (you know how rare that is in NYC hotels), and the bathroom had this rain shower that I may have used longer than environmentally responsible.

What I really loved though was how plugged in you feel to the neighborhood. You walk out the front door and you’re immediately in the thick of it – there’s Katz’s Deli literally two blocks away, and all these little bars and vintage shops that tourists haven’t totally discovered yet. The hotel staff actually knows the area too, which sounds basic but trust me, it’s not always the case. The concierge pointed me toward this tiny mezcal bar on Stanton Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooftop scene at the hotel is pretty solid too – not overly scene-y, just a good spot to grab a drink and watch the sun set over the Manhattan Bridge. I went up there around 6 PM on a Thursday and it wasn’t packed, just locals and a few other hotel guests.

I mean, it’s not perfect – the elevator situation can get a little annoying during busy times, and if you’re on the Rivington Street side, you’ll hear some street noise (though honestly, that’s just part of staying in this part of town). The neighborhood can feel a bit gritty if you’re used to Midtown sanitized hotel land, but that’s exactly why I’d come back. You’re staying somewhere that feels like actual New York, not the tourist version of it. Plus, you’re a quick subway ride from basically everywhere – the F train at Delancey-Essex is right there, and you can walk to SoHo or Chinatown in like ten minutes. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re getting a slice of the real city, just with really nice sheets and a killer view.

Early hotels booking in New York requires advance planning during peak seasons when visitors flock to enjoy the city’s Broadway shows, world-class shopping, and American cultural attractions.

Loved it - gorgeous views, comfortable room and very helpful staff.

Very friendly and helpful staff and gorgeous views. Perfect location. I’ve stayed before a few years ago and was keen to come back.

What could be improved: The room was in very mild disrepair - e.g both window latches in bathroom and living room open so the handyman had to come; bathroom fan not working; paint peeling from damp in the bathroom. Plus one of the lifts was out so could be quite a wait in the morning. Nothing that disrupted my stay too much but feels like the rooms could do with a bit of a light upgrade to make sure everything’s well finished and in working order.

Friendly staff

Great front desk staff. Maintenance and cleaning staff were also very nice and diligent.

What could be improved: A bit loud in our room. We could hear the traffic and noise from the street even though we were on the 11th floor. It was also super windy throughout our stay and the balcony door was closed shut with duct tape. It would constantly be pushing the door and making some noise throughout the day and night. Also only one elevator was working which was annoying.

What could be improved: A little cold, but it was ridiculously cold in nyc that weekend. Toilet didn't flush, had to hold the lever down.

That it was very nice and spacious and love that you could see out but wish the view was better view

What could be improved: That the sink wasn’t draining so every time we brushed or wash our hands in their the water with sit in there for hours before draining. Didn’t like that we couldn’t use the hot tube because it was only coming HOT water and unfortunately my daughter is 2 can’t put her inside that. She really wanted to play in there

All the extra fees were a surprise to what I thought was a great location and price point.

The location was extremely convenient on a street with easy access to getting around NYC. The room was spacious and well appointed. The lobby was transforming into a welcoming night spot to dine and have a drink at the end of a busy day.

What could be improved: The toilet was running most of the time even after a service.

Very Good

the location was great very cool downtown vibe. The room was very large for a NYC hotel. I would stay here again they are undergoing renovations and the lobby is stunning

What could be improved: The bathroom was too dark and all the black tile and finishes were too dark. but the shower is really large and nice.
