Sanctuary NYC Retreats

So Sanctuary NYC Retreats completely caught me off guard – in the best possible way.

So Sanctuary NYC Retreats completely caught me off guard – in the best possible way. I mean, when you’re walking down Stanton Street in the Lower East Side, you’re expecting dive bars and late-night dumplings (which, don’t get me wrong, are fantastic), but this four-star boutique spot just sort of emerges from the chaos like this perfectly calm oasis. The building itself has that classic pre-war brick thing going on, but step inside and it’s immediately clear someone put serious thought into making this feel like an actual retreat rather than just another hotel trying too hard to be cool.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to capture that whole “sanctuary” vibe without being pretentious about it. The lobby has these gorgeous warm wood tones and soft lighting that actually makes you want to linger – I ended up spending way more time than planned just sitting there with coffee, watching the mix of business travelers and weekend adventurers come and go. The rooms are honestly impressive for this neighborhood; they’re not huge (this is Manhattan, after all), but the design is so thoughtful that you don’t feel cramped. The bedding situation is top-notch – I’m talking about the kind of sheets that make you consider extending your stay just to sleep in them one more night. And you know what surprised me? How quiet it gets at night. I was bracing for typical Lower East Side weekend madness, but their soundproofing game is solid.

The location is actually perfect if you want to experience real New York without staying in some sterile Midtown tower. You’re literally steps from some of the city’s best late-night eats – Katz’s Deli is a five-minute walk, and there’s this incredible ramen spot called Ivan Ramen right around the corner that locals queue up for. During the day, you can easily walk to SoHo for shopping or catch the subway to anywhere else you need to be. The staff here really knows their stuff too; they gave me restaurant recommendations that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps, and their check-in process was refreshingly smooth. I honestly can’t think of a better base camp for exploring downtown Manhattan – it’s got that boutique hotel charm with genuine comfort, and at an 8.8 rating, clearly other people are figuring this out too. Just book early if you’re planning a weekend stay; word’s getting out about this gem.

Great home away from home in LES with everything you need just around the corner. 500m to the subway

The real LES with a decent size room with kitchen facilities and a chill balcony. Convenience store on the corner, cafes and bars down the end of the street. Plenty of authentic characters and street players that make up the fabric of this part of the city. We felt safe everywhere, even if we got hit up for spare change a few times (lol). It’s great!

What could be improved: No complaints

Very Good

Clean, quiet. Great location

What could be improved: Nobody was on the property during the evening. The manager did give me her phone number if I needed anything. I did have to call her once for a key issue, which was my mistake. She arrived within 10 minutes. But if it was during the night, I would be reluctant to call

Exceptional

Cozy appartment to spend a few days in Manhattan. Delancey metro station is 7-8 minutes walking from the place. Beds are really comfortable (even the folding bed), the kitchen is full equiped and it has a small terace

I would recommend staying here

Loved the space, we had 4 adults and a 12 year old and we had plenty of room.

What could be improved: Street noise and AC a little noisy but it's NYC so to be expected (we live in the country)

Comfortable and smooth experience

Clean, homey feeling. Staff were very nice. Traveled with 3 people and a pull out bed was in the closet, extremely easy to set up and already had sheets on it & ready to go.

Wonderful

The room was spacious for Manhattan, full kitchen was great. Patio was nice to have. Very clean facility. Wished we had a few more dishes and glasses but we washed them daily in the dishwasher. We stayed a week and it was nice to return to this room. It was pretty quiet.

What could be improved: The air conditioner was loud. Other than that, no complaints.
