Honestly, when I first walked into Broadway Plaza Hotel, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s right on Broadway in the thick of everything, so I figured it’d be one of those places that’s all location and no soul. But you know what? I was completely wrong about this four-star gem.

The thing is, this hotel sits perfectly in NoMad, which – if you’re not familiar with New York – is this sweet spot between the Flatiron District and Midtown that locals actually hang out in. You’re literally steps from the Flatiron Building (great for those Instagram shots, obviously), but more importantly, you’re surrounded by some of the city’s best under-the-radar restaurants. I actually discovered Eleven Madison Park was just a few blocks away during my stay, though good luck getting a reservation there. The lobby has this unexpectedly calm vibe despite being right on one of the busiest streets in Manhattan – they’ve somehow managed to soundproof things really well, which is honestly a miracle in this city.

What really got me was the attention to detail that you don’t usually find at hotels in this price range. The rooms are smaller than what you’d get in, say, Midtown West, but they’re designed smart – lots of built-in storage and these great little reading nooks by the windows. I spent way too much time just watching the controlled chaos of Broadway below. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, too, which sounds basic but trust me, it’s not. When I asked about late-night food options, the front desk guy didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map – he told me about this 24-hour deli two blocks down that makes sandwiches better than most restaurants. The whole experience felt surprisingly personal for a hotel this size. Check-in was smooth even during what looked like a busy period, and they managed to get me a quiet room on the 8th floor despite the street-facing location. If you’re planning to stay here, just know that the elevators can get busy during peak hours, but honestly, that’s true everywhere in Manhattan. The 9.1 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it absolutely nails what most travelers actually need.
