First Impressions

Walking into Doubletree By Hilton New York Times Square West, you’re greeted with those signature warm chocolate chip cookies — honestly, it’s such a nice touch after navigating the chaos of New York streets. This four-star property sits right on West 40th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, and I mean, you really can’t ask for a better spot. The lobby has that polished Hilton feel without being overly flashy, which actually works perfectly for the neighborhood vibe.

Location That Actually Makes Sense

Here’s what I love about this location — you’re literally steps from Times Square but tucked away enough that you’re not drowning in tourist crowds every time you walk out the door. Hell’s Kitchen has become this incredible food destination, and you’ll find yourself wandering to places like Joe Allen or Marseille for dinner instead of the overpriced tourist traps. The subway access is solid too, with the Port Authority and Times Square stations both walkable, so getting around the city is straightforward.

The Room Experience

The room itself surprised me — and I say that because Manhattan hotel rooms can be, well, tiny. These are actually decent-sized by New York standards, with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of light. The beds really are as comfortable as everyone says (couples rate this place 8.8 for location, and I can see why they keep coming back). You know what’s refreshing? The bathrooms are modern and functional, with good water pressure — something you definitely shouldn’t take for granted in older NYC buildings.

Breakfast and Practical Details

The continental breakfast gets the job done, though honestly, with Hell’s Kitchen right outside your door, you might want to explore the neighborhood cafes instead. There’s something to be said for grabbing coffee and a pastry from a local spot and people-watching from one of the nearby parks. The hotel staff has always been helpful when I’ve needed recommendations, and they seem to actually know the area rather than just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the fanciest hotel in Manhattan, but it hits that sweet spot of location, comfort, and value that’s hard to find in this city. You’re close enough to Broadway shows that you can walk back after a late performance, but far enough from the Times Square madness that you can actually get some sleep. The fact that couples consistently rate the location so highly tells you something — this is a place where you can enjoy New York without feeling like you’re constantly fighting the city. For a solid four-star experience in one of the best neighborhoods for food and theater, it really delivers on what matters most.

New York hotels provide guests with comfortable accommodations in this never-sleeping city, known for its Broadway shows, world-class museums, and legendary shopping districts.

Good

What could be improved: Very cramped and small, did not feel like a 4 star hotel

great stay just be patient w elevators

great location off the 42 PABT blue line station. easy walk to times square. great bar at the corner of the block open late with great food (beer authority)

What could be improved: my only drawback when i stay here is the elevators. there is only 4 of them, and after 9pm 1 is dedicated only to the roof top bar. No matter the time of day you are waiting at least 10 minutes in the lobby to get up to your room, and usually the same time frame waiting from your floor to go down to the lobby. Elevators are also small fitting about 8 people without luggage, 5-6 with luggage. Apart from that - amazing hotel which i will always stay at and just know the elevator situation will be my only annoyance

NEW YORK Hilton Stay

The size of the rooms were good, nice roof bar with good views. location was really good, near to a subway station

What could be improved: Didn't think the reception staff were very friendly and sum undesirables lurking near hotel.

Our stay was good. The rooms were clean and bed were very comfortable. The elevators took forever.

Location was great. Close to everything including the subways.

What could be improved: Rooms are very small. Could vastly fit our two suitcases in the room

Great for one night

The room was very comfortable and even had heating.

What could be improved: The reception area was very busy and a little overwhelming when i first arrived I didn’t know what to check in and the lifts were busy all the time.

It was okay

The room was quiet and had a nice bed. I appreciate the staff handing out cookies and water for the long wait for check-in. Checkout was quick and simple.

What could be improved: The keylock and cards were tricky. A mini fridge would have been cool. The elevators took a little while, but that was to be expected with the volume of people. If water bottles were available in rooms, that would be nice.
Unrelated to staying at the hotel, but trying to get in contact with them prior to this day to guarantee check-in time was extremely difficult.

Overall ok but not amazing

Joana was really helpful and nice

What could be improved: It was over crowded and the night that the rooftop was working you could have waited for a elevator for like 10 minutes

I am glad it was clean and great location.

Location

What could be improved: I booked a double bed room and checked in via the app. Upon arrival, I was told the room didn’t have ac, and the only other available room was a single bed room. The next day, they moved my luggage to a double bed room, but i could still access the old single bed room. Luckily, only the cleaning crew was inside. They could have updated the app to tell me my new room number and where our baggage was. I had to stand in a long line to check in again and get the new keys.
Additionally, guest were making noise in the corridors at all hours of the night and day. Woke us up at 4 am.
