First Impressions
Walking up to the Gansevoort Meatpacking on 9th Avenue, you immediately get that this isn’t your typical New York hotel. The sleek glass facade rises above the cobblestone streets of the Meatpacking District, and honestly, it feels like stepping into a different era of the city — one where old industrial grit meets modern sophistication. This five-star property has this confident, almost understated presence that I really appreciated. You know what strikes you first? The way it manages to feel both luxurious and authentically New York without trying too hard.
The Neighborhood Advantage
The location is actually brilliant if you want to experience Manhattan beyond the typical tourist zones. You’re literally in the heart of the Meatpacking District, which means the High Line is basically at your doorstep — I mean, you can see people strolling along the elevated park from some of the hotel windows. The Whitney Museum is a five-minute walk, and you’ve got this incredible mix of high-end boutiques, art galleries, and some of the city’s best restaurants right around the corner. What I love is that couples seem to gravitate here (the staff mentioned it’s particularly popular for romantic getaways), and I can see why — there’s something intimate about this pocket of the city, especially in the evenings when the cobblestone streets empty out a bit.
Rooms with Character
The room I stayed in had floor-to-ceiling windows that made the space feel enormous, even though it’s not the largest you’ll find in the city. The design strikes this perfect balance between industrial chic and luxury comfort — exposed brick walls, rich fabrics, and these gorgeous hardwood floors that actually creak a little when you walk (in a charming way, not annoying). The bathrooms are particularly impressive, with deep soaking tubs and rainfall showers that make you want to linger. I spent way too much time just looking out at the Hudson River views, watching the sunset paint the water different shades of gold.
Dining and Social Spaces
The rooftop scene here is something else entirely — it’s got this pool that feels almost surreal suspended above the city, and the views stretch from the Hudson to the Empire State Building. The restaurant downstairs serves this modern American cuisine that’s sophisticated without being pretentious, and the bar attracts an interesting mix of hotel guests and stylish locals. What surprised me was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out — they gave me recommendations for little wine bars and galleries that I never would have found on my own.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel works because it captures something essential about New York luxury — it’s polished and refined, but it doesn’t feel disconnected from the city’s energy. The service has this effortless quality where they anticipate what you need without hovering, and there’s parking available (which, trust me, is no small thing in this part of Manhattan). Recent guests consistently rave about the location, and after spending time here, I understand why. It’s one of those places where you feel like you’re experiencing the real New York, just with thread counts and amenities that make everything a little more comfortable.

Great location and super comfy stay
Location and vibe
What could be improved: Lifts were soooo slow
Staff were rather disconnected and attempting to get tea making rather than coffee making facilities in the room was a major struggle
Been at hotel three times and young staff really not engaged with a offering a great guest experience
Lovely hotel, brilliant location; shame about "members" crowding the pool
lovely rooms.
Good staff.
excellent location.
What could be improved: main issue is that the pool is swamped by "external members" on weekends, which is a bit much given the cost and amenity fee.
Wonderful
Location. Rooftop pool. Decor.
What could be improved: Pool only available for children until midday.
Good
Location
What could be improved: Its restaurant
Lovely. Will be back again!
Excellent property with clean and big rooms
What could be improved: Price. And pools usage was very limited
Flawless customer service; brilliant team here who made us feel special and welcome. And a brilliant location.
The staff were excellent: friendly and knowledgeable.
What could be improved: It’s expensive: the accommodation and the food and drink. And you can’t lie around the pool, there are slouchy chairs, but no lying down sun beds apart from the ones, at great cost, to hire.
high class hotel in great location
very comfortable bed. spacious bathroom
What could be improved: the view
Very Good
Location and views were spectacular.
What could be improved: Staff was up in our business. Attentiveness vs privacy - not an easy balance.
Very Good
Fun hotel in a great location. Sleek and clean.
What could be improved: When we arrived at the property we were told the room was available but there would be a $75 charge to check in early. Seemed like a greedy way to charge people for something that would otherwise be a nice gesture to clients already paying a lot for a room.
Wonderful
Rooms were spacious, staff was very accommodating
