The Mark New York
You know what struck me first about The Mark New York?
You know what struck me first about The Mark New York? Walking up to this place on East 77th Street, it doesn’t scream “look at me” like some of those flashy Midtown hotels do. It’s actually kind of understated for a five-star property, which honestly made me curious about what they were hiding inside. And wow – they’re hiding a lot.
I mean, this is New York we’re talking about, where hotel rooms are usually the size of closets, but The Mark feels almost European in how spacious everything is. The lobby has this sort of dramatic black and white thing going on that could’ve been pretentious but somehow works perfectly. What really got me though was how quiet it stays inside, even though you’re right there in the thick of the Upper East Side action. I stayed on a higher floor and could barely hear the street noise, which is honestly a miracle in Manhattan. The staff – and I’m usually pretty critical about service – they actually remember your name after day one, not in that forced way some places do, but like they genuinely care about making your stay work.
Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re there: you’re literally a block from Central Park (perfect for those early morning runs I kept promising myself), but you’re also walking distance to some of the best museum hopping in the city. The Met is right there, obviously, but you’ve got the Frick Collection nearby too, and honestly some of the best shopping on Madison Avenue if that’s your thing. What I loved was being able to duck into the hotel between activities – maybe grab something from room service, which is ridiculously good by the way – then head back out refreshed. The Jean-Georges restaurant downstairs is worth the splurge at least once, though fair warning, it gets pretty scene-y on weekend nights. Room service though? That’s where they really shine, and you can eat it looking out at the city without dealing with crowds. The rooms themselves feel more like a really wealthy friend’s apartment than a hotel room, if that makes sense. The bathrooms are almost obscenely nice – deep tubs, amazing water pressure, all that marble that makes you feel a bit fancy even in your pajamas. I actually found myself spending more time in the room than I usually do in New York, which says something since there’s so much to see outside.
The concierge service in New York can arrange exclusive Broadway backstage tours, secure private museum gallery visits, and organize trips to nearby Hamptons and Hudson Valley wineries.

Decor, style, comfort of room and bed, courtesy fruit basket in room, excellent food from room service.
What could be improved: When we checked in they gave us the wrong key, it was late almost midnight, we entered the room snapped on the light, and woke a terrified woman who was sleeping in the bed- she almost had a heart attack- a human mistake, but not something we or the poor woman expected.
