Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked into The New York EDITION, I wasn’t expecting much despite it being a five-star hotel. I mean, Madison Avenue can feel pretty corporate, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The lobby hits you with this cool, understated vibe that’s more “I belong here” than “wow, look at all this marble.” Ian Schrager really knows what he’s doing – the design feels effortlessly sophisticated without trying too hard to impress you.
What I love about the Flatiron District location is that you’re genuinely in the thick of things without the Times Square chaos. You can walk to Madison Square Park in literally three minutes (perfect for morning coffee), and honestly, being right there puts you within easy reach of both Midtown and downtown spots. The rooms themselves – well, they’re what you’d expect from a property like this, but the floor-to-ceiling windows really make a difference. I stayed on the eighth floor and could actually see a sliver of the Empire State Building if I pressed my face against the glass, which felt pretty New York in the most ridiculous way.
The restaurant downstairs, The Clocktower, is where things get interesting. I grabbed dinner there twice during my stay, and the British gastropub thing works surprisingly well in this setting. It gets pretty buzzy around 7 PM – locals actually come here, which tells you something. The bar scene is solid too, though it can get loud on weekends if you’re trying to have an actual conversation. One thing that bugged me slightly was the elevator situation during peak times – there are only two, and when there’s a private event happening (which seems frequent), you’ll find yourself waiting. But the staff genuinely seems to care about sorting things out quickly, and the front desk team remembered my name after the first night, which doesn’t happen everywhere. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between trendy and comfortable, and you don’t mind paying for the privilege of being in one of the city’s most walkable neighborhoods, this place delivers on its promises.

Great location, great views, great people.
The staff was lovely, the Marriott app is a great addition to the experience as it gave us easy communication with the reception and housekeeping team. Matteo on the bar had the most delicious cocktails made for us whenever we came down to the bar. The Le Labo body lotion was lovely as well.
What could be improved: The food in the clock tower restaurant was okay. The chicken liver pate was quite acidic.
Great location but the rooms feel a little dated and tired now.
Location
What could be improved: No coffee facilities in room, very little closet space for two people for a week.
Cool Hotel but pricey
Hotel is awesome - really cool bar and restaurant. Great location as well - very walkable and across the street from the park.
What could be improved: It's way too pricey for what it is - better hotels charge less.
Excellent location, room and staff.
Location and service amazing
What could be improved: A coffee machine should be automatically supplied in the room.
Restaurant too dark
Lobby should have carpets and pictures to be cozier.
Pleasant
What could be improved: Beautiful but would expect coffee machine in a suite in any hotel but especially the edition. Beautiful non the less
Pleasant
Location
What could be improved: House keeping is below average
Excellent! Beautiful design, great staff and convenient location!
Great location, valet parking which is so important in NYC, the staff was always pleasant, the design is modern and clean yet warm and relaxing.
Greta stay
Location and the room is spacious
What could be improved: Small Lobby, lights are very low in the cupboard area.
Pleasant
The room was great and the bed was comfortable.
What could be improved: The service at the hotel was below par. Especially for such an expensive hotel, I was incredibly disappointed with the front desk service as well as the service at the lobby bar.
Expensive for what it offers
great location, gym and bar is very lively.
What could be improved: very small rooms, no breakfast included, only one very expensive restaurant option, not a good client relationship
