First Impressions
Walking into 11 Howard, New York, a Member of Design Hotels, you immediately sense this isn’t your typical five-star hotel experience. The lobby feels more like stepping into a sophisticated friend’s loft — there’s this understated elegance that doesn’t scream luxury but whispers it instead. Located right in the heart of SoHo, the building itself has this industrial-chic vibe that perfectly captures what makes this neighborhood so magnetic. You know what really struck me? The way natural light floods through those massive windows, creating this warm, almost gallery-like atmosphere.
The SoHo Advantage
Honestly, the location is pretty much unbeatable if you want to experience the real pulse of New York. You’re literally surrounded by some of the city’s best shopping, art galleries, and that perfect mix of high-end boutiques and vintage finds that SoHo is famous for. I mean, couples consistently rate this spot 8.9 out of 10, and after spending time here, I totally get why. You can walk to Little Italy for dinner, stroll through Nolita for afternoon coffee, or catch the subway at Canal Street — everything feels accessible without that touristy chaos you get in Times Square.
The Room Experience
The room design follows that same minimalist-but-warm philosophy as the lobby. Clean lines, neutral tones, but with these thoughtful touches like custom furniture and locally-sourced artwork that give each space personality. What really impressed me was the bed situation — and apparently I’m not alone, because guests consistently rave about how comfortable they are. The bathrooms are sleek without being cold, and there’s actually decent storage space (which, let’s be honest, is rare in Manhattan hotels). The windows are large enough that you feel connected to the neighborhood energy below.
Dining and Social Spaces
The ground-floor restaurant has become something of a neighborhood institution, which tells you everything about how well this place integrates with SoHo’s social scene. It’s not just hotel guests eating there — you’ll see locals, artists, and business people mixing together in a way that feels organic. The menu changes seasonally, but there’s always this focus on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients that somehow manages to feel both sophisticated and approachable. The bar area extends the social vibe into the evening, creating this natural gathering spot that never feels forced or overly hotel-ish.
Why Guests Love It
What sets this place apart is how it manages to deliver luxury without the stuffiness that sometimes comes with five-star properties. The service feels personal rather than formal — staff members actually seem to know the neighborhood and can give you real recommendations, not just the standard tourist suggestions. The design aesthetic appeals to people who appreciate good architecture and thoughtful details, while the location satisfies both culture seekers and shopping enthusiasts. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere special, but you’re also genuinely experiencing New York rather than being insulated from it.
Hotels in New York offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of the Big Apple, with easy access to Wall Street, vibrant nightlife, and renowned attractions like Statue of Liberty.

Very Good
location, staff, bed
What could be improved: need more plugs in the room!
Very Good
What could be improved: no coffee in the room and no coffee or food available before 7 am which is not great
Great location for feeling NY vibe and shops!
2nd floor library was a great space to hang and do some work
What could be improved: The bathroom lacked a shelf or stand to put toiletry
We loved our stay, the beds were so incredibly comfortable, and the staff were all very pleasant.
The location was superb and suited all our needs.
What could be improved: The bathroom was rather small.
Brilliant location and good size room.
Brilliant safe location. We had water glimpses from our 11th floor room. The room was a great size considering the loaction. The bathroom and room were clean. Beds super comfortable.
What could be improved: No hot water for the 2 days and no-one communicated there was an issue as they did know. I had cold showers as once in the shower I could not be bothered but my daughter wanted a hot shower so each day we had to call the front desk and wait some time for another bathroom to use. 1st night we had to go to the 6th floor although the room was clean. The 2nd night we had to wait longer and were taken to a nearby room on the same floor although it was very obvious many people had been in this room before. Which was not acceptable. We were given 1 free breakfast for the inconvience. Still not acceptable considering we had paid over AUD$800 a night.
Would recommend
Great location and very comfortable rooms
Loved the location, comfy bed and design
Fantastic location, beautiful design, very comfortable bed and pillows, super clean
What could be improved: Plastic cups and tiny plastic bottles of body wash etc - not very conscious of environment. Zero sense of hospitality - had to ask for bottled water at front desk, no slippers, kettle, coffee or tea options. For over $900 AU per night it felt no frills other than the room itself - which was very nice.
Nice and modern hotel close to the main attractions.
The location is perfect, walking distance to the main attractions.
What could be improved: The rooms are a little bit small considering is a 5-star hotel.
Great location!
Great location. Comfortable bed and very soft sheets. Nice shower. 2nd floor lounge was convenient to gather. Nice welcome staff.
What could be improved: Main lobby wasnt very large. Wanted coffee maker in the room - no decaf available. Our kids were in a double bedroom and it was very small.
Overall convenient location and clean room but didn’t like the service and room size.
Good location. Walking distance to China town and SoHo shopping also Canal train station
What could be improved: Staff didn’t help with luggage when we checked in and checked out. Cleaning staff keeps knocking on the door at 8-9Am everyday for clean up while we are getting ready to go out.
Room is very small and we keep tripping on the angle edge of the bed with our legs.
