First Impressions
Walking up to the Lotte New York Palace on Madison Avenue, you honestly can’t miss the dramatic entrance β it’s this stunning blend of historic Villard Houses from the 1880s and a sleek modern tower that somehow works perfectly together. I mean, you’re literally stepping into a piece of New York history that’s been transformed into a five-star experience. The lobby feels like stepping into a European palace, which makes sense given the name, but there’s something distinctly Manhattan about the energy here.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what’s brilliant about this spot? You’re right in Midtown East, which means St. Patrick’s Cathedral is practically next door, and you can walk to Central Park in about ten minutes. The location really is exceptional β I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels in this area, and this one puts you within easy reach of everything without the Times Square chaos. Madison Avenue shopping is right outside your door, and honestly, the subway connections are solid if you want to explore other neighborhoods. Couples seem to get this immediately β there’s something romantic about strolling down these tree-lined blocks in the evening.
The Room Experience
The rooms here are where the hotel really shines, and I’m not just saying that because of the high ceilings and elegant dΓ©cor. The beds are genuinely some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in the city β there’s this perfect balance of firmness and softness that actually lets you sleep well despite being in the middle of Manhattan. Each room feels spacious by New York standards, and the marble bathrooms have this old-world elegance that makes you want to take your time getting ready. The views vary depending on which side you’re on, but even the courtyard-facing rooms have character.
Dining & Amenities
The hotel’s restaurant scene is more sophisticated than flashy β Villard Michel Richard offers this refined French cuisine that feels special without being stuffy. What I really appreciate is that they have parking on-site, which is honestly a luxury in this part of town (and saves you the headache of street parking or expensive garages). The fitness center and spa facilities are well-maintained, though they’re more intimate than sprawling β perfect for unwinding after a day of city exploration.
Why Guests Love It
There’s something about this place that keeps people coming back β actually, they have more repeat guests than most hotels I know in the city. I think it’s because the Lotte New York Palace manages to feel both grand and welcoming, which isn’t easy to pull off. The staff genuinely seems to remember returning guests, and there’s this sense of being part of something special rather than just another tourist checking in. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing the best of New York luxury without the pretension that sometimes comes with it.

Great location but rooms weren't serviced and unprofessional front desk staff
On the plus side, the location was excellent (near The Rockefeller and about a 15 minute walk to Times Square/Broadway/Grand Central Station). The rooms were large (for NYC) and the beds were comfortable. The door staff were super friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: - We only stayed a couple of nights and by 6pm none of the three rooms that we were staying in had been serviced. Someone, however, had been in our room and added a half drunk bottle of water. On the first night I called to remind them to do it which they did. On the second night, we were out all day so I didn't realise the room hadn't been cleaned again, until we returned back to the hotel at 11pm. I called to complain but there was no apology. I was passed from one person to another but no one would register my complaint. I called a further two times to speak to the manager but the manager didn't answer, despite staff assuring me, that he was available. I felt I was being fobbed off. Having your room cleaned is a basic requirement of all hotels, let alone a luxury hotel, so it is unacceptable that they couldn't manage this, nor would they apologise.
- The beds were too small to comfortably sleep two people (despite being advised on they were).
-There are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room so you have to go downstairs each morning and buy your own.
- WIFI is USD15 per day but no where does it tell you the cost until you are presented with your bill at check out.
- We complained about the lack of cleaning and the unexpected WIFI charge and we were met with rolling eyes and sighing. Really unprofessional. We were also charged for things we didn't have (two boxes of sweets). No apology was given. We were told we should have complained about the cleaning at the time, which, of course, I had and it made no difference.
- I would not stay at this hotel again.

Beautiful setting! Exudes old world elegance without being stuffy.
