You know what caught me off guard about YOTEL New York Times Square? Walking into what feels like a spaceship lobby in the middle of Hell’s Kitchen – I mean, this place is seriously futuristic in the best possible way. The whole concept is borrowed from Japanese capsule hotels, but they’ve made it work for New York without feeling cramped or weird. The rooms (they call them “cabins”) are compact but honestly genius in their design – everything has a purpose, and the bed transforms into a sofa during the day, which is pretty cool when you’re trying to actually use your room for more than just sleeping.
The location on 10th Avenue is actually perfect if you ask me. You’re right in Hell’s Kitchen, which means you’re close enough to Times Square that you can walk there in about ten minutes, but you’re not dealing with the absolute chaos of being right in the thick of it. I loved being able to grab dinner at one of the amazing restaurants along 9th Avenue – the whole area has this great mix of local spots and newer places that haven’t been completely touristified yet. The four-star rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but everything works really well and feels thoughtfully designed. Check-in is handled by robots (seriously), which sounds gimmicky but is actually pretty efficient, though there are real humans around if you need help with something more complicated.
What I really appreciated was how quiet my room stayed despite being in Midtown – the windows do a solid job blocking out street noise, and the building doesn’t have that old New York hotel creakiness. The rooftop terrace is definitely worth checking out, especially in the evening when you can see the city lights without the crowds you’d get at more famous observation spots. Honestly, if you’re the type of traveler who spends most of your time out exploring anyway and just wants a smart, clean base to crash at, this place nails it. The whole vibe feels more like staying at a friend’s ultra-modern apartment than a typical hotel – which in Manhattan, where hotel rooms can feel like glorified closets, is actually pretty refreshing.

Clean, great location, comfortable room (except that the AC was broken for half my stay)
What could be improved: The staff didn’t seem to care - they were on their phones when I was trying to check in and didn’t greet me - didn’t try to help in any way. Bad vibe. The guy who fixed my AC was super nice and was working hard in the middle of the night!

What could be improved: The minor inconveniences were more related to my own preferences on sleeping but overall nothing against the hotel stay
Close to convention center and Times Square
This hotel is very close to the Javits Center. It also has a nice bar with a view of Times Square. The beds are initially folded like a couch. A button is pushed to flatten it out.
What could be improved: The bathroom area is at the end of the room by the window. It is enclosed by frosted glass walls and doors. (Shower and toilet on one side with glass doors, sink on the other side open to the room) It doesn't feel very private and there is no solid door to shut out toilet smells. We had 3 rooms. One with 2 beds had a curtain to give privacy in the dressing area by the sink.

What could be improved: No coffee facilities .. not aware you could have a little fridge in your room until it was 3 days into my stay … no drawers to unpack your things into

Very nice hotel, air-conditioned, clean and good staff.
This is a great place to stay if you’re in New York for under a week. The staff were incredibly polite throughout my stay and on my first day, this amazing woman made sure I got a nice room with a view. It was clean and comfy bed, the size of the room was good enough for me. I’d defo come back here for my next trip as the location is perfect.

Cleanliness. Location is central making walks to the subway and the Square very easy. Ease of checking in and out.
What could be improved: Stayed for 6 nights, room wasn’t cleaned on 2 of those days.
