New York City Guest House 2
I'll be honest – when I first walked up to the New York City Guest House 2 on West 130th Street, I wasn't sure what to expect.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the New York City Guest House 2 on West 130th Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Harlem has this amazing energy that’s completely different from touristy Manhattan, and this unique boutique hotel fits right into that authentic vibe. You’re basically staying in a neighborhood where real New Yorkers live, which I mean, that’s pretty special these days.
The building itself has character – it’s one of those classic brownstone-style places that actually feels like New York instead of some generic hotel chain. What really struck me was how the owners have managed to create something that feels both local and welcoming to visitors. The rooms aren’t huge (this is NYC after all), but they’re thoughtfully designed with details that show someone actually cares about the place. I loved the mix of modern amenities with touches that nod to the neighborhood’s rich history. You know what’s great? The staff genuinely knows the area – they’ll point you toward the best soul food spots or tell you which subway entrance is least crowded during rush hour.
Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned to explore authentic New York without the Times Square chaos. The 2 and 3 trains are close by, so getting downtown is actually pretty easy, but honestly some of the best experiences are right in your backyard. Marcus Garvey Park is a short walk away, and the restaurant scene in this part of Harlem is incredible – I’m talking places where locals have been going for decades alongside newer spots that are doing really interesting things. Parking can be typical NYC street parking (good luck with that), but the subway access more than makes up for it. The neighborhood gets lively on weekends but settles down nicely in the evenings, so you won’t be dealing with constant noise. What I appreciated most was feeling like I was staying somewhere with real personality – this isn’t trying to be fancy for fancy’s sake, it’s just a well-run place that happens to be in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods.

Great stay, clean room, good value
Really clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower was nice and the room was a really great size! There is also a small kitchen to use which was handy. The host was really accommodating too and quick to reply to responses!
What could be improved: Nothing! Everything was nice and as advertised.
Near the subway interesting if you want to stay in uptown NY city and good price with a shared bathroom
Very good price for what you get
What could be improved: The furniture could be of better quality
Wonderful
Great location, excellent value for money (given that it's on Manhattan). Staff was very helpful. When there was construction in front of our window, we were given a different room in the back without any problems. There was also a kitchen, which was great to save some money.
I liked it. If you looking for a place where you only plan to sleep and nothing more - that’s a great deal
Clean, quiet, great area, close to subway, lots of cafes and bars around. Historic building has its vibe.
Staff are friendly and welcoming, easy check in and check out.
What could be improved: Shower wasn’t much better than trying to wash myself in the rain
clean and budget friendly with not so many compromises
Literally 20 minutes away from NYC center if you take the subway. The room is exactly like the pictures. We didn’t mind the bathroom’s size -which is indeed very small as the other comments mention- as it was always super clean. The lady that manages the rooms is very helpful, she replied super fast to our messages and even kept our luggage safe as our flight was later than check out time. Thank you!
What could be improved: Harlem is safer in some areas than others. If you use the subway it’s better to approach with lines 2 and 3 from 125st station and also by bus. Other nearby stations may not be so safe at night.
I had a nice homely feeling, could have stayed longer. Good connections for public transport.
Location is in a silent sideroad with trees and nice birds songs in the morning. There are lots of supermarkets around, also some Jazz bars such as the Shine. I felt totally safe there. Bathroom and Restroom was shared, kitchen could be used by all, the room had a small fridge. I liked the size of the room, it had a nice wooden floor, high ceiling, heated nicely. The house was very clean, the managing lady very friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: There was a table with two chairs, but for working on it and sitting on it with laptop it was a bit tough. I recommend to add a working chair for those, who need it. In the kitchen there were no cooking materials like knifes pots and plates and dish cleaning liquor, but the room had some glasses and two spoons. In the kitchen you could find a stove, a microwave and a heater for tea.
Very Good
Everything great. In a very good position in Harlem near three different subway stations. The room is really big, very clean, comfy. There's also a small shared kitchen if you have to warm up some food or wash a cup.
What could be improved: As all the other reviews said, shared bathroom/shower are small. But I must say I always found them free and clean.
Very Good
Spacious room in Harlem close to the subway. It was very clean with shared amenities.
Wonderful
Excellent location, a few blocks away from Metro station. The neighborhood is fairly quiet and beautiful. The room was super clean. Highly recommended if you want to stay in the Uptown.
Great value, great location
Great location it's a 20-30min to everywhere and it looks exactly like the pictures
What could be improved: The bathroom is tiny. You can't wash your hands without bumping into the toilet.......
