Smyth Tribeca

I'll be honest – when I first walked into Smyth Tribeca, I wasn't expecting much from the outside.

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Smyth Tribeca, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. The building sits on West Broadway without making a huge fuss about itself, which is actually perfect for this neighborhood. You know how some hotels try too hard to announce themselves? This one just fits right into Tribeca’s industrial-chic vibe like it’s always belonged there.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to nail that balance between boutique intimacy and four-star polish. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling – sort of like stepping into a well-designed friend’s loft, if your friend happened to have impeccable taste and a serious budget. The staff actually remembers your name after the first day, which sounds small but makes a difference when you’re dealing with the usual New York hustle. I mean, there’s something refreshing about genuine service that doesn’t feel scripted or overly rehearsed.

The rooms themselves are what you’d hope for in this area – clean lines, great lighting, and windows that actually open (trust me, that matters more than you think in the city). The beds are fantastic, and honestly, after walking around Tribeca all day exploring the cobblestone streets and warehouse-turned-galleries, you’ll appreciate sinking into quality linens. What I really loved was the attention to sound – you’re not going to hear much street noise, which is pretty impressive considering you’re right in the heart of everything. The neighborhood gets surprisingly quiet after business hours anyway, since it’s more residential than touristy.

Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned to wander. You can walk to SoHo in about ten minutes, hit up some of the best restaurants in the city without needing a cab, and you’re close enough to the Hudson River waterfront that evening strolls become part of your routine. The subway connections are solid too – you’ve got multiple lines within easy reach, though honestly, I found myself walking most places because everything feels so accessible from here. Parking is typical Manhattan expensive if you’re driving, but most people aren’t, so that’s probably not your main concern.

Reasonable hotel in tribeca area.

Staff exceptional and bed quality very good.
Food at the tavern very high quality and excellent service.
Location was very good.

What could be improved: Decor a little tired. Breakfast policy not detailed at booking with an amount per person allotted to use in the tavern, so it caused confusion at checkout. Please make this clearer and provide more information at check in.

We will be back!

What could be improved: Bathroom lighting is poor - all hotel bathrooms need a night light rather than the blast of 1000 watts in the middle of the night.

Solid stay in Tribeca

Room and gym were spacious and products were lux. Great lounge to work out of before room was ready. Staff was nice. They have water in lobby which is a plus. Did not try food or restaurant so can’t speak on that.

Can't beat the location, staff or terrace at The Smyth Tribeca!

The Smyth Tribeca will now be my new must stay in Manhattan! I've been staying at the AKA Nomad for a minute as the neighborhood is nice but staying in Tribeca is such a treat compared to midtown, so the location of the hotel really is spectacular and SAFE. The hotel is walking distance to Soho, WTC and Ground Zero, Carbone is a decent 20 minute walk so great after a large meal...excellent location. Whole Foods is a couple turns away with a nice liquor store next door. Was here for work so I was lucky to book the Penthouse Terrace Suite to hold meetings in, it was pricey cause it is a penthouse, but compared to other NYC hotel rooms with terraces, this room takes the cake. The room itself is spacious, large bedroom with ample closet space and mini fridge, large master bath with shower (shower has both wall and handheld shower heads) a separate soaking tub, powder room for guests, beautifully lit living area with pull out couch, spacious table for dinner/meetings, kitchenette with sink, fridge and stove/microwave/oven for those Carbone leftovers. My corner room located was in the north west corner, the terrace is stunning and extremely spacious. There is a sitting area in the corner - fits 6 people comfortably and on the other end of the terrace is a nice table and chairs if you choose to dine al-fresco. In addition, there are two lounge chairs to enjoy the sun and when chilly, there are plug in heaters to keep you toasty! The hotel gifted me a nice bottle of wine, this was so nice, thank you! Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to eat in the hotel but I hear the food and drinks are very good. I have to give shout outs to Edgar, Jaime and Mario from the staff- these gentlemen really made my stay spectacular. Edgar checked me in and out, so polite and gracious. Jaime helped me with requests, really nice guy. Mario and his fantastic glasses was so very sweet helping me with my bags.

What could be improved: I would have given a score of 100/100 but there were just a few misses that causes me to give a 93/100. As beautiful, spacious, well decorated the Penthouse Terrace Suite is, here are my callouts/misses:
1) At 7am on my first morning, the bedroom's wireless speakers blasted at full volume, dance music so loudly that I had to go out on the terrace to call the front desk to come turn it off. It took nearly 25 minutes for the engineer to come up to locate the issue and to unplug everything in that cupboard. FYI- there is a cupboard under the living room TV where there are 3 black boxes labeled "bedroom" "living room" and I can't remember the 3rd label. If you don't want this to happen, make sure these are unplugged cause you will have a rude awakening.
2) When I called down at 7am, the person who answered the phone was a bit rude when I asked for help to turn off the sound system blasting dance music at 7am, honestly, this person's indifference was off putting and disappointing. 15 minutes go by, still no one, I call back and they snapped at me that the engineer is on their way, I was pretty shocked. Another 8 minutes go by, I call back cause I need to get ready for my meeting, no one answers the phone rings for 2 minutes. Nothing. Finally the engineer shows up, doesn't say hi or good morning, just straight to the cubby, unplugs and leaves.
3) For a room that has a kitchenette with an oven and ample space to eat both indoors and out, there was not a single place setting, silverware, napkin or plate to be found in this penthouse. It would have been really nice to have table settings available in the room for late night leftovers or an early morning breakfast on the terrace. Simple fix, I called down and they brought everything I needed quickly, but it would have been nice to just have dishes and glasses already in the room ready for use.
