The Standard, High Line New York

The Standard, High Line New York sits right on Washington Street in what feels like the perfect sweet spot between the Meatpacking District’s buzz and Greenwich Village’s more laid-back vibe. I mean, you’re literally steps from the High Line entrance, which sounds touristy but honestly – having that elevated park as your backyard never gets old, especially during those golden hour walks when the light hits just right.
What strikes me most about this four-star place is how it manages to feel both sleek and unpretentious at the same time. The lobby has this cool industrial-meets-boutique thing going on, with floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light during the day. The rooms themselves are surprisingly spacious for New York standards – I’ve stayed in plenty of Manhattan hotels where you can barely open your suitcase, but here you actually have room to breathe. The bathrooms deserve a mention too; they’ve got these gorgeous mosaic tiles and rainfall showers that make you want to linger longer than necessary. You know what I really appreciate though? The soundproofing is solid. Washington Street can get busy, especially on weekends when the whole neighborhood comes alive, but once you’re inside with the windows closed, it’s surprisingly quiet.
The rooftop situation is where things get interesting – there’s this bar up there that draws a pretty hip crowd, but it’s not so exclusive that you feel out of place if you’re just a regular traveler wanting a drink with a view. Actually, the view is probably one of the best-kept secrets here; you get these incredible sightlines of the Hudson River and New Jersey skyline that somehow feel more intimate than the typical Midtown panoramas. Staff-wise, they’re genuinely helpful without being overly polished – when I needed restaurant recommendations beyond the usual suspects, the front desk guy pointed me toward this tiny Italian place on Jane Street that I never would have found otherwise. Parking is pretty much what you’d expect in this part of Manhattan (translation: expensive and scarce), but the hotel’s location means you’re within walking distance of multiple subway lines, so you honestly don’t need a car anyway. The whole area transforms throughout the day too – mornings are relatively peaceful with dog walkers and joggers heading to the High Line, afternoons bring the lunch crowd from nearby offices, and evenings… well, let’s just say the Meatpacking District knows how to party. But that energy is part of what makes staying here feel like you’re really experiencing New York rather than just visiting it.

Very Good
Rosa and Mr. D !!
Made our trip worthwhile 💙💙💙
What could be improved: The first room !!!!
But after my complaint Rosa was kind enough to understand that I was with my daughter and it was her birthday during our staying and changed the room.
Gorgeous
Amazing rooms and views.
Cool decor
Great restaurants and bars in the building
Incredible location
What could be improved: Nothing much to dislike - the gym could’ve been better equipped. My only disappointment was the door staff and servers at Le Bain - very rude to customers staying in the hotel when trying to get into the club and whilst in the club. Very disappointing and very old school.
Great location but spoiled by the noise from the rooftop bar.
Great location and our room had fabulous views. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: The rooftop bar was very noisy and the music didn’t shut down until 2 or 3 am which is unacceptable. We asked for ear plugs but they didn’t really help.
We wouldn’t recommend the hotel to our friends because of the noise.
Great location. Great design. Bad maintenance
Great location. Great Staff in reception- they really made our daughters feel welcome!
What could be improved: We stayed in two rooms, for two nights. We couldn’t sleep the first night because the ventilation system was making a lot of noise ( room 417). The hotel was full that night and the issue couldn’t be solved by maintenance. We were upgraded the following day, but the AC in the new room (712) couldn’t be turned off and the hot water run out while we where showering.
Loved it.
The location is excellent, lots of bars and restaurants nearby and close to the subway. The staff at reception were incredibly friendly and our room was very comfortable with views out over the Hudson. We had a rate which included breakfast which we enjoyed. Happy hour cocktails in the Standard Grille were great.
What could be improved: There was no coffee in the room - you could get one from the Grille downstairs but we would have preferred being able to make our own in the room.
Wonderful
Architecture & vibe
The trip was overall great! Exceptional views, staff, and very clean.
The views above the 9th floor are great. Staff were friendly and nice. They allowed for early check in and extended checkout without any fuss.
What could be improved: The price on the room service menu was a little high considering the portion sizes you get for the food.
Perfect.
The location of the hotel is probably the best in Manhattan. Rooms have a lovely retro touch. Everything matches. Included breakfast is absolutely recommendable.
What could be improved: It can be a pricey option depending on your timing.

Wonderful
Amazing view
Room was perfect
Location was great
What could be improved: During the night the room was very noisy, probably due to Le Bain
