Library Hotel by Library Hotel Collection

You know what caught me off guard about Library Hotel by Library Hotel Collection? I was expecting some gimmicky book-themed place, but this four-star spot on Madison Avenue actually nails the whole literary concept without being cheesy about it. Each floor is organized by the Dewey Decimal System – I mean, who thinks of that? – and honestly, it works better than you’d think.
The location is pretty brilliant if you ask me. You’re right in Murray Hill, which puts you walking distance from the Morgan Library (obviously perfect given the theme) and Grand Central, but you’re not dealing with the absolute chaos of Times Square tourists. I stayed on the Poetry floor – yeah, they really commit to this thing – and the room had this cozy, intimate feel that reminded me more of a private club than your typical New York hotel. The rooms aren’t huge, which is pretty standard for Manhattan, but they’re smartly designed with built-in reading nooks and actually decent lighting for, well, reading. The books aren’t just props either; they’re real collections curated for each floor’s theme.
What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, especially considering you’re on Madison Avenue. The staff clearly knows their regulars – I overheard them chatting with guests about book recommendations, not just the usual “how’s your stay” small talk. The rooftop reading room is where this place really shines though. During the day you get decent views of the Chrysler Building, but honestly, I found myself up there most evenings just because it felt like this secret little escape above all the city noise. They’ve got a proper honor-system bar up there too, which somehow works perfectly with the whole literary vibe. Fair warning though – if you’re here during peak tourist season, that rooftop gets discovered pretty quickly by other guests, so hit it early morning or later evening if you want some peace. The breakfast situation is continental style, nothing fancy but solid enough, and there’s a little library-themed restaurant downstairs that’s actually pretty decent for dinner if you don’t feel like venturing out. Parking is what you’d expect in Midtown – expensive and limited – but the subway access is solid with the 6 train right there at 33rd Street.
Exploring New York offers visitors an unforgettable journey through America’s most iconic city, from its towering skyscrapers to its diverse neighborhoods and world-renowned connections to global culture and commerce.

Somewhat disappointed
Location. The lounge/library room
What could be improved: They really didn’t put much thought into the choice of room. I was put in a room with books that were all in an Asian language(s). I had eagerly imagined heaps of books to read, but not in my room.
Nice place to stay in a central location
Great central position. Good breakfast.
What could be improved: Air conditioner was very loud. Scaffolding outside the hotel prevented any view from the window.
Perfectly located cozy boutique hotel
Location is perfect, and the reading room provides for an unbeatably comfortable/cozy lounge area. The building was undergoing maintenance on its exterior during my stay, so can't wait to return once all the scafolding is gone. All in all an excellent hotel for people looking for comfort and wellbeing that go beyond an impersonal cold luxurious building.
What could be improved: I missed finding a luggage rack/suitcase holder in the closet, I ended up having to open my large check-in suitcase on a marble round side table.
I had a relaxing and peaceful time.
I love the concept the “free” espresso all day with snacks and fruit in the library. A great atmosphere and location.
What could be improved: There’s scaffolding all over it right now. It impacts the view but I’m sure can’t be helped and won’t last forever! The one light shadow was the unfriendly front desk lady. Everyone was kind and helpful and friendly but she was my first face and chilly and unfriendly. Maybe shy. Maybe not great for a front desk!
Cozy and comfortable stay in a great location in NYC.
Location, amenities, quiet despite construction and midtown location. The library theme was adorable. Very clean with comfortable bed.
What could be improved: Temperature control in the room didn’t seem to work properly. Room was a little cold. No fan ventilation in bathroom.
Exceptional
Well located and well themed, the hotel is clean and comfortable, the room spacious.
I would stay at this hotel again next time I’m in nyc.
I love the Dewey decimal themed rooms and the Lou ge area with free drinks and snacks. The doormen were very helpful.
What could be improved: Breakfast wasn’t included
Exceptional
Charming boutique hotel, great location.
Very nice boutique experience!
Everything
What could be improved: Hard to find entrance as the facade is being repaired
Fantastic location, wonderful staff would definitely stay again…in a bigger room!
The location was brilliant. Right in the middle of everything. I loved the library theme and all the little ‘reading’ references around the hotel. The lounge on the second floor was really nice to sit and relax in with a tea or coffee. The roof terrace restaurant ‘Bookmarks’ was also great. Good food and drinks and staff lovely overall.
What could be improved: We had a petite room and it really was petite. A bit claustrophobic at times especially with the heat. It was also a shame there was scaffolding up which spoilt the views on the roof terrace.
