The Marlton Hotel

I'll be honest – when I first walked up to The Marlton Hotel on West 8th Street, I almost missed it entirely.

I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to The Marlton Hotel on West 8th Street, I almost missed it entirely. It’s tucked into this narrow townhouse that blends right into the Greenwich Village streetscape, which is actually perfect because you’re staying in one of the most authentically New York neighborhoods without some massive hotel tower ruining the vibe.

This four-star boutique spot has this old-world literary feel that hits you the moment you step inside. The lobby’s got these dark wood panels and vintage furniture that makes you want to curl up with a book – turns out there’s actual history here since it used to house writers and artists back in the day. The rooms are compact (this is Manhattan, after all), but they’re thoughtfully designed with brass fixtures and marble bathrooms that feel way more expensive than what you’re paying. I mean, the beds are seriously comfortable, and honestly, after walking around the Village all day, that’s what matters most. You know what surprised me? How quiet it gets at night, even though you’re right in the middle of everything – the old building has thick walls that actually block out most of the street noise.

Location-wise, you’re basically in the sweet spot of downtown. Washington Square Park is literally a two-minute walk, and you can grab coffee at Joe on Waverly or hit up Minetta Tavern for dinner without dealing with subway rides or expensive Ubers. The staff actually knows the neighborhood too – they’ll point you toward the good stuff, not just the tourist traps. I had the front desk guy tell me about this tiny jazz club on MacDougal that I never would’ve found otherwise. The hotel doesn’t have a big flashy restaurant or rooftop bar (there’s no room for that kind of thing in these old buildings), but there’s a cozy lobby area where you can hang out, and honestly, with all the incredible spots within walking distance, you don’t need hotel amenities competing for your attention. Just be prepared for a true New York experience – the elevator’s vintage and moves at its own pace, and if you’re bringing huge suitcases, well, let’s just say you’ll get acquainted with those narrow hallways pretty quickly. But that’s part of the charm, really. This place gets what Greenwich Village is about without trying too hard to be trendy or Instagram-perfect.

Classy NYC hotel with beautiful rooms and a lovely breakfast setting.

Classy style, has charm, loved the breakfast and the staff were great. Location was also great for my needs. The room amenities, such as the robe, slippers, and toiletries were a nice added touch.

What could be improved: I really wish they had a door person--there are stairs to enter the lobby and there is no one to even open the door for you, let alone help you up the stairs with the heavy door and your bags.

just lovely. felt like i was in london.

everything

What could be improved: the proximity of the hall door to the staircase. a little tricky opening the door with luggage etc. My friends independently mentioned the same thing. the stairs should be carpeted for safety

Excellent location and lovely staff would recommend!

The staff were extremely friendly. The front desk staff in particular.

What could be improved: The complimentary breakfast felt a little lazy. Not much choice.

I had a wonderful time. Will stay here again!

Comfortable, clean, stylish, great location, really good restaurant!

What could be improved: Always too cold in the lobby and restaurant even on hot days. Terrible pillows, I mean terrible! Other guests smoking.

Enjoyable stay in a great location!

Great location, the style of the hotel, multiple and fast lifts (as can be an issue in NY), clean, bed was comfortable, majority of employees were very helpful and friendly.

What could be improved: No water refill facility in the hotel other than asking the bar. Very small room (but I acknowledge this is pretty standard for NY, and fine for one night stay), we encountered one very rude employee when picking up our room key the evening we checked in, but other than him, everyone else was extremely welcoming and helpful.

Beautiful room and neighborhood

We loved everything about the room and the location.

What could be improved: The included breakfast is okay, but isn't free since you're still expected to tip (that's obviously okay, but us europeans tend to forget this). However, the prices displayed for the breakfast you get are way too much for what you get. To be honest the whole breakfast situation was a bit confusing.

Like traveling to Paris!

Location and ambiance. Feels like you’re staying on the left bank in Paris! Fabulous lounge and restaurant.

What could be improved: Elevator - needs refurbishment. Bedroom exceptionally small.

Comfortable, Historical, Rude Staff

The bed was so comfortable. I had everything in the room that I needed. (water, snacks, slipers, iron)

I like the neighborhood and the breakfast in the hotel and the design of the hotel.

What could be improved: The room was so small there was no space to sit just bed for sleeping. So I wanted to sit in the lobby where there are nice coaches. But everytime the staff interrupted me and asked me if I am from hotel. It felt so disturbing. And one time a staff (knows that I am from hotel) asked me to move to a different chair because she wanted a different group to sit there and the area was empty.
Nice ambience but comparing to what I had and the money I paid, it is a bit overprised.

The short stay at the Marlton was a positive experience; the room and amenities, location and service were all appreciat

The property retains a lot of its original features which is interesting. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The location is also very convenient.
