First Impressions
Walking into The Knickerbocker feels like stepping into old New York glamour — but the good kind, not the stuffy museum version. This five-star beauty sits right at 6 Times Square, and I mean right there, where you can practically touch the neon from your window. The lobby hits you with this perfect mix of Beaux-Arts elegance and modern comfort that somehow doesn’t feel forced. You know what really got me? The way the staff actually remembers your name after one conversation, which is pretty remarkable considering how busy this place gets.
Location & Neighborhood
Honestly, you can’t get more central than this in New York. I’ve stayed at plenty of Times Square hotels, and most of them either stick you on some side street or charge you extra for the real deal — but The Knickerbocker is literally in the heart of it all. Broadway theaters are a two-minute walk (I timed it), and you’re close enough to hear the street performers but far enough up that you won’t hear every taxi horn. The subway entrance is right there too, which saved me countless times when it was pouring rain.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had these floor-to-ceiling windows that made me feel like I was living in a movie about New York. The beds are seriously comfortable — that kind of luxury bedding that makes you want to order room service just so you don’t have to leave. What impressed me most was the attention to detail: proper blackout curtains (essential when you’re facing Times Square), a marble bathroom that actually has counter space, and closets big enough for a week’s worth of stuff. The whole space feels sophisticated without being cold, if that makes sense.
Dining & Amenities
The rooftop restaurant and bar situation here is something else — I mean, the views alone are worth the price of a cocktail. St. Cloud rooftop gives you this incredible 360-degree view of the city, and honestly, it’s one of those spots where even jaded New Yorkers will admit looks pretty spectacular. The Charlie Palmer Steak downstairs is solid too, though I’ll warn you it’s pricey even by Manhattan standards. There’s also a fitness center that’s actually well-equipped, not just a couple of sad treadmills like some places.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to be both a luxury destination and a practical base for exploring the city. Couples seem to particularly love it here — and I get why, because there’s something romantic about watching the city lights from your window while still being able to walk to dinner anywhere you want. The service feels personal despite the hotel’s size, and the building itself has this historic character that newer places just can’t replicate. It’s expensive, sure, but when you’re paying Times Square prices anyway, you might as well get the full experience.
Best hotels in New York range from luxurious Manhattan penthouses with Central Park views to boutique hotels in trendy Brooklyn neighborhoods and classic midtown properties near Broadway theaters.

the perfect hotel in the perfect place
Amazing hotel in the heart of the city
Wonderful
Room is clean and big. It is important that the room has soundproof window.
What could be improved: There is No kettle in the room and nothing in the minibar. No tea no coffee.
Great hotel in perfect location
The location of this hotel is perfect in between the hustle and bustle of Times Square and the peace and tranquility of Briant Park. It’s also 2 minutes walk away from the Subway.
The staff are so friendly and helpful and always willing to go the extra mile to help you have a good stay.
The rooftop bar is a lovely place to unwind after a day out sightseeing or shopping.
The rooms and spacious and very clean.
What could be improved: Only thing that could have improved our stay is tea / coffee making facilities in the room.
Very Good
The rooftop bar was absolutely brilliant, with the most incredible views.
The rooms were lovely and very clean.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: Hotel breakfast wasn’t included in the price.
Exceptional
What could be improved: Our internet didn’t work - I shared this with the front desk and the receptionist didn’t say much about this
Great location but disappointed by hotel as it didn’t live up to what we expected
Location was great, Times Square on doorstep and subway very close by
What could be improved: Scaffolding all over building, workmen outside window.
Wasn’t aware the hotel would be taking $150 deposit each day which we hadn’t factored into our budget.
Even though you put the do not disturb on door staff still come in.
Rooftop bar was great but it was very expensive and range of soft drinks/mocktails was poor. We didn’t feel welcomed on one of our visits, there were loads of tables available but we were told too busy for a table even though in the time we were there tables were never used. You can use the bar but it doesn’t even have anywhere to sit.
Complimentary tea and coffee would have been welcomed which is offered in much cheaper hotels.
Exceptional
The rooms were excellent, the staff were very attentive. They even provided a fruit platter and cake for my wife's birthday.
The food was amazing, and so was the location. Right in time, square and east to access anywhere from there.
What could be improved: N/A
Overall nice stay but would probably not stay again because of valet issue.
Clean and comfortable. Beautiful facilities and rooftop bar with tasty bites.
What could be improved: Valet parking, waited an hour and a half to get my car back. Concierge said she was not able to contact the garage but the bell boy ended up doing so to help us out. Made me wonder why the concierge could not?
Good for a city break
Spacious room and friendly staff, high-quality toiletries. We had a room in the back - very quiet and nice.
What could be improved: Wish there was a coffee maker in the room and while it was not important to us, the lobby is super small which would make a quick meeting for business purposes difficult.
Great place to stay in Times Square.
Surprisingly spacious and comfortable historic hotel right in Times Square with all the conveniences that offers. Friendly staff, excellent housekeeping and nice little touches abounded during the trip. Rooftop bar is a great place to recharge even if it's a bit pricey!
What could be improved: There's some construction being done on the building outside but it wasn't much of a problem.
