The Greenwich Hotel

Walking into The Greenwich Hotel for the first time, I honestly wasn’t prepared for how intimate it would feel – this five-star spot in Tribeca manages to make you forget you’re in one of the busiest neighborhoods in New York. The entrance on Greenwich Street is pretty understated actually, which I sort of love because it means you’re not fighting crowds of gawkers just trying to get to your room.

What really gets me about this place is how every single room feels completely different – I mean, the owner apparently collected pieces from all over the world, so you might end up sleeping under hand-painted Moroccan tiles one night or next to a massive Japanese soaking tub the next. It’s not the usual cookie-cutter luxury hotel thing where everything looks like it came from the same catalog. The courtyard is probably my favorite surprise though – you walk through these heavy wooden doors and suddenly you’re in this quiet, plant-filled space that makes zero sense given that you’re basically surrounded by cobblestone streets and converted warehouses. I’ve stayed there in both summer and winter, and honestly, it works both ways. Summer evenings in that courtyard with a drink? Perfect. But even in February, there’s something cozy about hearing the subtle sounds of Tribeca through those thick walls while you’re wrapped up inside.

The restaurant situation is solid too – Locanda Verde downstairs gets packed (especially weekend brunch, fair warning), but the food is legitimately good, not just hotel restaurant good. I’ve seen plenty of locals there, which tells you something. You know what though? The real win is the location itself. You’re a five-minute walk from the Hudson River if you want to run or just clear your head, but you can also wander over to SoHo or even walk to the Financial District without breaking a sweat. The 1 train at Franklin Street is right there when you don’t want to walk, and getting a cab or Uber is never the nightmare it can be in Midtown. Parking is still Manhattan parking – meaning expensive and slightly anxiety-inducing – but the valet team actually knows what they’re doing. One thing I’ll mention: the elevators are small and can be slow when the hotel’s full, but honestly, that’s a pretty minor complaint when everything else works so well. This isn’t the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in a corporate chain – it’s got personality, the staff remembers your name after day two, and you’ll probably find yourself lingering in the lobby longer than you planned just because it feels good to be there.
