First Impressions
Walking into The Herald by LuxUrban feels like discovering one of those well-kept secrets that seasoned New York travelers whisper about. This three-star boutique hotel sits right in the heart of Midtown, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. The lobby has this modern, understated vibe — not trying too hard to impress, but you can tell someone put thought into the design details.
Location & Neighborhood
You know what really struck me about staying here? You’re literally steps from everything that matters. The Empire State Building is practically your neighbor (I mean, you can see it from some rooms), and Herald Square is right there with all its shopping chaos. But here’s the thing — despite being in such a bustling area, the hotel itself feels like a quiet retreat. Penn Station is a quick walk when you need to catch a train, and the subway connections are actually pretty solid from this spot.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was compact but smartly designed — typical for Manhattan, really. What impressed me was how they maximized the space without making it feel cramped. The bed was surprisingly comfortable, and the bathroom, while small, had everything you’d need. The windows are well-insulated too, which matters when you’re dealing with New York street noise. I actually slept better than I expected, considering we’re talking about one of the busiest neighborhoods in the city.
Amenities & Service
The staff here genuinely seems to care about making your stay work. They’re not overly formal, but they know their stuff — especially when it comes to neighborhood recommendations. There’s a fitness center that’s basic but functional, and the business center comes in handy if you need to print boarding passes or handle work stuff. The restaurant on-site serves decent food, though honestly, with so many incredible dining options within walking distance, I found myself exploring the neighborhood more often than not.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets The Herald apart is how it strikes this balance between being affordable and actually comfortable — not always easy to find in this part of Manhattan. Couples seem to particularly appreciate the intimate scale and the fact that you can walk to Broadway shows, shopping, and great restaurants without dealing with long subway rides. The value proposition is solid: you’re getting a clean, well-maintained place to stay in an unbeatable location without paying those sky-high rates that some of the bigger hotels charge. It’s the kind of place where you spend your days exploring the city and come back to a reliable, comfortable base — which, let’s be honest, is exactly what most of us want from a New York hotel.

Guest Reviews
The location is absolutely crazy. Right in the center of Times Square action, close proximity to most subway lines. Absolutely bonkers the location.
Location
The location was perfect. Right outside a subway stop.
Location
Great location really comfy beds
Spotlessly clean, comfortable, well maintained, modern and quietly stylish accommodation in a totally unbeatable location right on Herald Square across from Macy's and right by the 34th Street subway station.
It's also less than five minutes walk from 5th Avenue and the Empire State Building and less than ten minutes walk from Times Square and Penn Station. Fifteen minutes gets you to the Rockefeller Centre and twenty gets you to Central Park.
It's a minimal service hotel where you get a friendly and efficient welcome at a small unassuming reception, good housekeeping, lifts that work, a vending machine in a small lounge with an outdoor terrace overlooking 6th Avenue and that's about it apart from a very small gym area so, if you want a restaurant, a concierge and bellhops, this is not the place for you.
Otherwise, although it's a bit pricey (this is prime location New York) it's nevertheless a hard to beat package and the upper floor Parade View rooms have spectacular views down onto Herald Square and up 6th Avenue to Central Park. In short, I'd be very happy to stay again.
One tip is that the building is on the corner of 35th and 6th with the entrance on West 35th Street marked as 8 Herald Square not 71 West 35th. Another is that the entrance is shared with the Monarch Roof Bar which occupies the top of the building and at night offers stunning views of the Empire State Building.
Great localization, rooms were cleaned everyday :)
Great location, LIRR nearby for connection to JFK. Friendly helpful staff, you can store luggage for very reasonable price.
John on the front desk was instantly welcoming and helpful, a great start to our stay.
Location was excellent with great view of Empire State Building & Macy’s. Good value compared to others in the area.
