The Harlem Cascades

I’ll be honest – when I first heard about The Harlem Cascades on West 128th Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name had me picturing some grand waterfall theme, but what I found was actually much better than that. This four-star boutique spot sits right in the heart of historic Harlem, and you know what? It gets the neighborhood exactly right without trying too hard to be something it’s not.
The building itself has this beautiful pre-war character – you can tell they put real thought into preserving the original details while making everything feel fresh and current. I mean, the lobby alone made me want to hang out there all afternoon with the way the light hits those restored hardwood floors. What really impressed me though was how they’ve managed to capture that authentic Harlem energy without falling into tourist trap territory. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Apollo Theater, and honestly, being able to stroll over there for a show then come back to your comfortable room? That’s the kind of experience you remember. The staff actually knows the area too – not just the obvious spots but where to grab the best coffee in the morning (hint: it’s not the chain place on the corner) and which jazz clubs are worth your time on a Tuesday night.
The rooms themselves strike this nice balance between boutique charm and actual functionality. Everything works the way it should, the beds are genuinely comfortable, and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without feeling cramped. I stayed on the fifth floor and barely heard any street noise, which in New York is basically a small miracle. The bathrooms are well-designed too – good water pressure, decent counter space, all those little things that matter when you’re actually living in a place for a few days. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of Harlem, but the front desk folks know all the tricks and can point you toward the most reasonable garage options nearby. What I really appreciated was how the whole place feels connected to its surroundings instead of trying to hide from them – the artwork in the hallways actually tells the story of the neighborhood, and you get the sense that staying here means you’re experiencing Harlem rather than just sleeping somewhere that happens to be located there. With an 8.4 rating from guests, it’s clear other people are picking up on what makes this spot special too.
New York’s apartments offer urban accommodations with skyline views, perfect for families wanting to experience daily life in this culturally rich American metropolis.

awesome location with kitchen and private bathroom.
great location. very close to 2-3 and c sub stations that takes you almost anywhere in nyc. we love eating in so the kitchen got almost everything we needed. ac worked well, bathroom is spacious and hot water was available anytime. wife worked flawlessly with reasonable speed. the owner answered us promptly whenever we asked something.
What could be improved: a nearby construction makes noise but it can be tolerable. the double bed is good but the sofa isn't comfortable, my son didnt enjoy sleeping on it. ac works well but is noisy. but the location is so great that you can ignore minor issues.
Very Good
The apartment is well equipped, the air conditioning is efficient, the accommodation is very close to the two main metro stations. We had a problem with the code at first but our host immediately answered our call and sent someone to help us, it was fixed in 5 minutes.
What could be improved: Not our host's fault but the upstairs neighbor was very noisy and vacuumed at 10 p.m. every night, moving all the furniture.
Not really a problem as such but you need to know that it's a working-class neighborhood undergoing gentrification. It's a bit surprising at first, but in the end, we felt good.
Harlem cascades
Loved the patio.
What could be improved: Patio table wasn't clean.
Wonderful
This was my first experience and it was great! Loved the charm of the place & the comfortability as well. Also, perfect location near 125th in Harlem, great for tourists.
What could be improved: I was very much aware that there would be different folks staying there so some type of reasonable noise would occur but there were times at different hours where there was door slamming downstairs & right next door. I wasn't to pleased with that part of my experience (of course not everyone would do the same).
A tiny but very pleasant room. Bathrooms clean. Would be perfect if not for the noise
The room is tiny, but cosy. Apart from the bed, there isn’t even enough space for a desk. However, it does have a fridge, kettle, microwave, and a fairly spacious wardrobe. Overall, my stay was very pleasant — I spent a month there, though I was out most of the time.
Cleanliness is at a high standard. The bathrooms are in the corridor (the ones on the upper floors are better…), a bit old but well-maintained and clean.
The window has a light blind and heavy wooden shutters — it’s possible to completely darken the room. The landlady is absolutely lovely and very helpful; she responded immediately to all of my requests.
What could be improved: Unfortunately, the downside is the noise — not so much from outside, but from within the building itself (neighbouring rooms and the hallway). The walls are very thin, and the doors don’t insulate sound well. When a neighbour turns on the TV, you can hear everything. If you're a light sleeper, it's a good idea to bring earplugs.
Wonderful
The style and comfort. The ease of checking in.
What could be improved: The cable TV froze on every channel.
Wonderful
Cozy studio apartment in a quiet setting. Very good for my short stay of few days.
If you are looking for a great place to stay in NYC, I would highly recommend this property.
Located on a side street of Harlem. Great older architectural buildings. The street was tree covered and had a great sense of place. The back door opened to a second story balcony with a table and chairs overlooking the back yards of the neighboring apartments, again with multiple trees. A lovely space away from the hustle and bustle of NYC.
Bus and subway stations are very close by.
Great value for the money!
Close to Central Park
Good value, clean and convenient location. Communication was good and timely
Value, space and location
What could be improved: 3 flights of stairs
