Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan/ Midtown Eastside
I'll be honest – when I first walked into Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan/ Midtown Eastside, I wasn't expecting much.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Residence Inn by Marriott New York Manhattan/ Midtown Eastside, I wasn’t expecting much. Extended stay hotels can be hit or miss, you know? But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The lobby feels more like a boutique hotel than your typical corporate setup, and there’s this genuinely warm energy from the staff that sets the tone right away.
What really won me over, though, is how this four-star property handles the whole “home away from home” concept without being cheesy about it. The suites – and they’re all suites here, which is pretty great – have these full kitchens that are actually usable. I mean, I’ve stayed in places where the “kitchenette” is basically a microwave and a prayer, but these have real refrigerators, proper stovetops, and enough counter space to spread out if you’re working or just want to grab groceries from the Whole Foods down on East 43rd. The living areas feel spacious too, especially by New York standards, with these comfortable sectional sofas that don’t look like they came from a hotel catalog.
Location-wise, you’re right in the thick of Midtown East without being overwhelmed by the Times Square chaos – thank goodness for that. I loved being able to walk to Grand Central in about five minutes, which makes airport trips so much easier, and you’re close enough to catch a Broadway show but far enough from the crowds that you can actually think straight. The neighborhood has this nice mix of business travelers and locals, so you’ll find decent coffee spots and lunch places that aren’t total tourist traps. One thing I particularly appreciated was how quiet the rooms stay despite being on East 48th Street – the windows do a solid job blocking out the typical city noise, though you’ll still hear some sirens (it’s New York, after all). The evening social hours in the lobby are actually worth checking out too, especially if you’re traveling solo and want to meet people without the awkwardness of hotel bar small talk. Just don’t expect anything too fancy – it’s more like wine and basic snacks, but the atmosphere is relaxed and genuinely friendly.

Hotel is great, except for the bed and the issues I had with booking.
Location is perfect, staff is very friendly and effective. Almost all perfect with the facilities and room too, except for a few things that could be improved.
What could be improved: Bed is too soft, seems like a really old mattress. Loud noise coming from the AC fan that I could not turn off or turn down (it is like a central AC that is always on). The hotel had issues with the Booking system and they did not solve this issues for me. Instead, I had to expend hours in the telephone talking with booking and with the hotel. I was a bit stressful and the property should have resolved this, not me.
