The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, by Hyatt
You know what struck me first about The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, by Hyatt?
You know what struck me first about The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel, by Hyatt? Walking into that soaring nine-story atrium feels like stepping into some grand Victorian novel – I mean, the place was actually built in 1883, so that makes sense. The cast-iron balconies and that incredible pyramidal skylight create this dramatic light show throughout the day that honestly had me looking up every time I walked through the lobby.
What really sets this five-star spot apart is how it sits right in the heart of the Financial District without feeling stuffy or corporate. You’re literally steps from Stone Street’s cobblestones and all those after-work happy hour crowds, but once you’re inside, there’s this surprisingly intimate vibe. The rooms – well, they’re not huge by any stretch, which is pretty typical for lower Manhattan, but they’ve got these gorgeous details like herringbone floors and brass fixtures that make you forget about square footage. I actually loved the bathroom setup with those subway tiles and rain showers, though fair warning – if you’re traveling with someone who takes forever getting ready, the space gets cozy fast.
The restaurant situation here is pretty solid too. Keith McNally’s Augustine on the ground floor does this French brasserie thing really well, and you can people-watch the Wall Street crowd mixing with tourists trying to figure out where the Brooklyn Bridge entrance is (it’s closer than they think, by the way). What I didn’t expect was how quiet the rooms stay despite being on Nassau Street – the old building’s thick walls really do their job. The staff genuinely seems to know their stuff about the neighborhood too, which matters when guests are asking about everything from the 9/11 Memorial to where to catch the Staten Island Ferry. Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to South Street Seaport in five minutes, grab the 4/5/6 trains right at Fulton Street, or wander over to Stone Street for dinner without dealing with Midtown chaos. It’s the kind of place that works whether you’re here for business meetings in FiDi or playing tourist – though honestly, even after staying here, I still think the Financial District empties out pretty dramatically on weekends, so just know you’ll be trading some of that bustling New York energy for easier restaurant reservations and actually being able to hear yourself think.

Amazing
The hotel took us to another world – back to classic 20th-century New York. Everything was simply perfect: the reception staff, the entire team without exception.
Breakfast was high-quality and delicious, and the bar-restaurant was absolutely outstanding.
From the elevators to the lobby, every detail was designed authentically and beautifully.
The location in Lower Manhattan is excellent, just a few minutes from the Brooklyn Bridge.
Highly recommended!

Wonderful
The hotel itself was beautiful. We appreciated the antique and historical space with all the modern convenience one would desire. The staff and on site concierge service were top notch.
On site restaurants were not only convenient but were very good. The Sunday Jazz brunch was wonderful.
Our room was up-graded upon check-in (without asking).

If you're looking for NYC charm, character, and ambiance, this hotel is it!
I've stayed at The Beekman several times, and it continues to be my favorite hotel in NYC. From the beautifully appointed rooms to the stunning bar and unbeatable location, everything about this place is top-notch. But what truly sets it apart is the staff—always warm, professional, and attentive. Every stay has been exceptional, and this time was no different. Already looking forward to my next visit!
What could be improved: If there’s one area that could use a bit of improvement, it would be breakfast. I’m not sure if it was just an off day or if there was some miscommunication, but our entire order came out incorrectly—from my iced latte arriving hot, to receiving scrambled eggs after asking for no eggs at all, and my friend’s meal being the opposite of what she ordered. That said, we didn’t make a fuss and still enjoyed the meal, but a little more attention to detail would go a long way. Even so, it’s not a deal breaker—I’ll absolutely continue dining there during my stays.
The Beekman was a perfect base to explore Lower Manhattan
The hotel’s style and front desk service were both impeccable and the food was excellent.
