Moderne Hotel
I'll be honest β when I first walked into Moderne Hotel, I wasn't expecting much from the name.
I’ll be honest β when I first walked into Moderne Hotel, I wasn’t expecting much from the name. It sounds sort of generic, you know? But this four-star spot on West 55th Street actually surprised me in the best way. The lobby has this sleek, understated vibe that feels authentically modern without trying too hard, and the staff genuinely seemed happy to see me, which is saying something in New York.
What really won me over was the location β you’re literally a two-minute walk from the 7th Avenue subway entrance, and I mean that’s huge when you’re hauling luggage around the city. Carnegie Hall is right there if you’re into that scene, and honestly, being in the heart of Midtown means you can walk to Times Square (though why you’d want to is beyond me) or duck into some incredible restaurants without dealing with endless subway transfers. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star β clean, well-designed, and the beds are actually comfortable, not just Instagram-pretty. I stayed on the 8th floor and barely heard street noise, which frankly shocked me given how close you are to all the action.
Here’s the thing though β this isn’t one of those places where you’ll want to hang out in your room all day. The hotel feels designed for people who are actually exploring the city, not hiding from it. Check-in was smooth, the elevators work (you’d be surprised how often that’s an issue), and there’s something refreshing about a place that just does the basics really well instead of loading you up with amenities you’ll never use. The neighborhood comes alive at night but settles down enough that you can actually sleep, and parking β well, it’s Midtown, so you know what you’re getting into there. I’d definitely stay here again, especially since the whole experience felt like getting good value without any of the pretentious nonsense you sometimes deal with at pricier Manhattan hotels.
Exploring New York offers visitors an unforgettable journey through America’s most iconic city, from its towering skyscrapers to its diverse neighborhoods and world-renowned connections to global culture and commerce.

Very Good
Loved the lobby staff. They were friendly and very welcoming.
What could be improved: The cleaning staff. They did take a while and when cleaning even though I was in the room. They were trying to keep the cover on the bed and not place a new cover. I had to ask them to please replace the covers with new ones.
Great value for the money on Manhattan π
Amazing location, 10 minutes by foot from Time Square, big rooms, kind staff!
What could be improved: Little space for the clothes, noice AC in the room. All the time we went to breakfast the they were out of pastries, just coffee.
Very cool hotel in a cool part of Manhattan.
Jerry was fantastic! He was a great help with excellent advice about the city, and so very friendly! The room, the bed, the hot water in the shower, and the hotel itself were excellent. The view was also great! And there is an excellent parking garage right next door.
What could be improved: The woman working the front desk during the day...never saw a smile, she voiced the general greetings...
But when we asked her if a room was available to stay a 3rd night (8/14), she took a long time checking and then stated no rooms were available...
However, when we checked Booking.com, it showed 2 rooms were available. Maybe she didn't know what she was checking, maybe she just didn't want our money, we'll never know... We moved to a different hotel.
When we double checked Booking.com on the night of 8/14 for the Moderne it still showed two rooms available.
I guess she just didn't want to make money and kept the rooms vacant.
Great staff, great location.
Fantastic staff. Helpful, happy, professional. Our location was very convenient and our room size was outstanding for NYC. I liked the lounge as well.
What could be improved: I believe that there were renovations going on, and some parts of our room showed wear. Other than that, I have no complaints, observations or comments.
Stylish
great style and location. most of staff were excellent
What could be improved: day staff lady with the glasses was quite rude multiple times to us :( rude about their broken elevator.... i was on 6th floor... rude and gassed me about giving me my package i had delivered... clearly my name on it. i had to argued for 20 min to get her to give me my stuff... all other staff was great.
Wonderful
Lovely room with a very comfortable bed. Hotel location is great and close to transportation. All staff were friendly and helpful. We had a bit of noise from the street late Saturday night but that is expected in Manhattan.
Moderate price hotel, but not without its pitfalls
Some of the staff was very helpful and friendly some of the staff not so much
What could be improved: There was construction going on. It started at 7 oβclock in the morning. Internal room had one small window and it faced a brick wall about a foot away, so it always seemed like it was nighttime a foot away so it always seemed like it was night. Free breakfast was nonexistent. They put out a few scones and supposedly some fresh fruit but even if you got there at 8 oβclock in the morning there was none left and didnβt refill it. The doors are very loud so every time your neighbor letβs go over the door. It slams and wakes you up all night long and itβs New York and people are coming in at all times of the night. The photos of the carpet are where itβs not worn underneath the desk and what it looks like right next to the bed it was very dirty.
Lovely hotel at a fantastic location
Lovely hotel in an amazing location - 5 minuten walk from Central Park
What could be improved: Free breakfast was pastries and coffee / nothing healthy was available
Fantastic!
Location. Small fridge in the room. Guest lounge with coffee, tea and water available at all times.
What could be improved: Nothing comes to mind.
Diamond in the rough
The location was near many things to see and do but as lso fairly quiet. Nice close market for food, snacks, sundries. Lots of restaurants within one block. The staff were outstanding. Helpful, nice, funny. Made our visit special .The room size was great. Parking right by hotel.
What could be improved: Slow elevators but realize an older building. There was continental breakfast advertised but no food except a couple tiny muffins. Disappointed. Good coffee. Lots of construction, so outside doesn't look like much.
