Park South Hotel, part of JdV by Hyatt
I'll be honest β when I first walked into Park South Hotel, part of JdV by Hyatt, I wasn't expecting much from the outside.
I’ll be honest β when I first walked into Park South Hotel, part of JdV by Hyatt, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. The building sits on East 28th Street in NoMad, which, let’s face it, isn’t exactly the most glamorous stretch. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t feel the need to shout about themselves from the sidewalk.
Once you step inside, it’s a completely different story. The lobby has this really interesting mix of classic New York elegance with some genuinely quirky touches β there’s original art everywhere, and I mean everywhere. The staff actually seems to know what they’re doing too, which honestly isn’t always a given in New York. During my stay, the front desk guy (I think his name was Marcus?) knew the neighborhood well enough to steer me away from the obvious tourist traps and toward this little Italian place two blocks over that I never would’ve found otherwise. That’s the kind of local knowledge you don’t get at the big chain hotels, even though this is technically part of Hyatt now.
The rooms are what really sold me on this place, though. For a four-star hotel in Manhattan, they’re surprisingly spacious β and I’m someone who’s stayed in my share of shoebox-sized rooms around the city. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathrooms have these great walk-in showers with actual water pressure. Small thing, maybe, but when you’re dealing with New York plumbing, you learn to appreciate the basics done right. The windows face different directions depending on which room you get, but even the street-facing ones aren’t too noisy β the building seems pretty well insulated. I was worried about street noise since it’s right in the thick of things, but honestly, it was fine.
What I really love about this spot is the location itself. NoMad has become one of those neighborhoods that locals actually hang out in, not just tourists. You’re walking distance from Madison Square Park (great for morning coffee and people-watching), and you can easily hit the Flatiron District or even SoHo without feeling like you need to plan a whole expedition. The subway situation is solid too β you’ve got the 6 train at 28th Street literally around the corner, plus the N, Q, R, and W lines at Herald Square if you don’t mind a slightly longer walk. I actually preferred walking most places from here β it’s one of those spots where you feel connected to the city rather than isolated from it.
The hotel restaurant is decent for what it is, though I’d probably skip it for dinner and explore the neighborhood instead. But their coffee in the morning? Actually pretty good, and the barista knew how to make a proper cappuccino, which isn’t as common as you’d think. Overall, this is the kind of place that gets better the longer you stay β you start noticing the little details, like how quiet the elevators are or how the housekeeping staff actually pays attention to your preferences. It’s not flashy, but it’s thoughtful in ways that matter when you’re trying to get a good night’s sleep in the city that never does.
