Chambers Hotel Central Park South, Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Chambers Hotel Central Park South, Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The entrance on West 56th is pretty understated, which I actually appreciated after dealing with some of the more over-the-top hotel lobbies around town. But once you step inside, you realize this four-star spot has a completely different energy than your typical Midtown hotel.

The thing that really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to balance that boutique hotel intimacy with the reliability you expect from Marriott. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Central Park – and not just any part of the park, but that gorgeous stretch near the pond where you can actually escape the city noise for a bit. The rooms have this modern, almost art gallery vibe with these incredible floor-to-ceiling windows that make even the smaller spaces feel expansive. I stayed on the seventh floor facing north, and honestly, the light throughout the day was just spectacular. You know what surprised me most? How quiet it gets at night, considering you’re right in the heart of New York. I guess being tucked onto 56th instead of right on one of the major avenues really makes a difference.

What I loved about staying here was how it felt like I had this perfect home base for exploring. Carnegie Hall is literally around the corner – I actually caught a last-minute show one evening because I could just walk over during intermission of my dinner plans and grab tickets. The subway situation is ideal too, with the N, Q, R, and W trains at 57th-7th Avenue just a few blocks away, plus you’ve got the F train at 57th if you need it. The staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood well, not just the tourist stuff but like where to grab good coffee early in the morning (there’s this little place on 58th they recommended that became my daily ritual). I will say the elevators can be a bit slow during busy times, but it’s one of those minor things you forget about when you’re looking out at the city from your window. The whole experience felt less like staying in a hotel and more like temporarily living in this really well-designed apartment in one of the best neighborhoods in Manhattan – which, honestly, is exactly what you want when you’re trying to actually experience the city instead of just passing through it.
