Merrion Row Hotel and Public House
I'll be honest – when I first walked into Merrion Row Hotel and Public House, I wasn't expecting much from the exterior on West 45th Street.
I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Merrion Row Hotel and Public House, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior on West 45th Street. But you know what? This place completely surprised me. The moment you step inside, there’s this warm, authentic Irish pub atmosphere that feels genuinely welcoming, not like some manufactured theme park version. The public house part isn’t just for show either – locals actually hang out here, which always tells you something about a place.
What really struck me about this four-star property is how they’ve managed to balance that cozy pub vibe with surprisingly sophisticated hotel amenities. The rooms are thoughtfully designed with rich wood finishes and comfortable furnishings that actually make sense together, not like someone just threw expensive stuff in a room and called it luxury. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Times Square chaos – I could hear the buzz of the city below, but it wasn’t overwhelming thanks to decent soundproofing. The beds are properly comfortable too, which matters when you’re walking all over New York during the day.
Here’s what I really appreciated though – the staff genuinely knows their stuff about the neighborhood. When I asked about avoiding the tourist trap restaurants, the bartender gave me three solid recommendations within a two-block radius that I never would’ve found on my own. The location puts you right in the thick of the Theater District, so if you’re catching shows, you’re golden. But honestly, even if you’re not doing the Broadway thing, being on 45th Street means you can walk to pretty much anywhere in Midtown without dealing with subway transfers. Parking is typical Manhattan expensive if you’re driving, but the hotel can arrange something if you ask ahead. What surprised me most was how the public house never felt too rowdy – there’s something about the Irish hospitality approach that keeps things lively but civilized. It’s the kind of place where you might end up chatting with other travelers over a proper pint, which doesn’t happen at every hotel bar in the city.

Excellent property and staff. would stay here again next time in the city
Great staff. food excellent AC worked great. Manager was charming and professional a true asset to the property.
The waiter Sebastian , was attentive and very nice Vet easy going making us feel welcome.
What could be improved: It wasn't that i didn't like it but the wall was adjourning a restaurant next door a little noisy at night.
The room was compact. I am not sure if that is the norm for a boutique hotel in the city.
Wonderful
It's a perfect location. We walked everywhere and it's 2 mins to times square but far enough away from the madness. Staff were very helpful and lovely to chat with. The room was a good size. Beds were very comfortable and the bathroom large.
What could be improved: The wardrobes were way too small and we ended up living out of the case for 5 days.
Wonderful staff, beautiful hotel, perfect location!
Beautiful, clean and high class. Small hotel but felt like home away from home. Lovely staff and excellent service. Jennifer in the pub was the BEST! Location was as wonderful as you could ask for. Adorable and comfy room.
What could be improved: Rooms are a bit small but that’s NYC.
Very good, staff really friendly and the food excellent
Centrally located and very clean
What could be improved: Quite expensive and the bar closed at 9 each night. Although there was a linked bar next door (we found out later)
Exceptional
The whole hotel and rooms were like a home from home. Fabulous.
Great find in the city
The location cannot be beat! 2 blocks from Times Square, 12 minutes from Empire State Bldg, we walked to both of our Broadway theaters. They are doing some construction on the street below so there is some noise, but being in the heart of NYC you can expect some- it wasn’t too bad. Generally it was quiet. There isn’t really a lobby- just a person sitting at a stand with a laptop. We were greeted with a smile when we arrived- very pleasant. Our room was on the second floor- we took the very small elevator up because our luggage was so large and heavy. Our room was a decent size for NY. We had a double room- the beds looked like Murphy beds with the stowage unit built into the wall. Regardless, they were both comfortable and we slept very well. The bathroom shower was incredible. It took a while to heat up but the pressure was fantastic. There wasn’t a vent in the bathroom so the stream from the shower was a bit overwhelming, had to open the bathroom door to let it cool off. AC worked great- no compliments, it was quiet so we didn’t have any noise with the unit. We did eat in the restaurant twice - the back dining room was very charming and the food was good.
A great find!
Great Irish hospitality. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent. Fittings and furnishings everywhere were beautiful. Beds and pillows were superb.
Only 3 floors so a small hotel with good personal attention. Rooms cleaned and towels changed every day.
Location for us was perfect. The hotel is next to Irish pubs and only 50 metres to Times Square. Subways were close by. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you Shona and staff, you all were so lovely.
What could be improved: The only small points to mention for us were no tea and coffee making facility in our room, which you normally take for granted. We could order at the bar but had to pay for it.
Also, we only had a small, thin wardrobe next to the bed and a desk with a chair. Apart from hanging up a few items, we had to dress out of our suitcases.
But otherwise, a really lovely hotel.
Great location, nice, but small room
Our room was quite small, but it is reflected in the price. If you have 2 luggage or a large one you will have trouble finding a place for them.
Staff was really nice and the hotel was tasetfully furbished, the bathroom is large espexially in comparison to the bedroom. Breakfast was not included but you get a 25 USD voucher to use in the restaurant.
Perfect location for NYC
The location was amazing, the bed was comfortable and the shower was so good!
What could be improved: The lift was tiny and made weird beeping noises throughout the night that I could hear from the room.
Great Hotel with perfect location
Lovely breakfast, Perfect location, small room but lovely and clean and airy. Lovely friendly staff.
Would highly recommend this hotel. Lovely warm welcome on arrival with prosecco and treats in room.
Staff very helpful.
