First Impressions
Walking up to The High Line Hotel on Tenth Avenue, you immediately notice this isn’t your typical New York hotel. The Gothic Revival building — honestly, it looks more like a charming seminary than a place tourists usually stay — has this unexpected warmth that draws you in. I mean, you’re in Chelsea, surrounded by art galleries and trendy restaurants, but this four-star property feels like a peaceful retreat from all that urban energy.
Location & Neighborhood
The location is actually brilliant, and I get why couples rate it so highly. You’re literally steps from the High Line (which, let’s be real, is probably why you’re here), but you’re also walking distance to the Meatpacking District and West Village. What I love is that Tenth Avenue isn’t as chaotic as some other Chelsea streets — you can actually have a conversation while walking to the hotel. The neighborhood has this perfect mix of local coffee shops and upscale dining, so whether you want a quick bagel or a fancy dinner, you’re covered.
The Room Experience
The rooms here are where this place really shines, and those comfort ratings make total sense once you sink into the bed. I’m talking about the kind of mattress that makes you question your life choices about your own bedding at home. The room design leans into that Gothic architecture — exposed brick, tall windows, dark wood details — but it never feels heavy or oppressive. Actually, there’s something quite cozy about it, especially in the evening when the lighting creates this warm, intimate atmosphere.
Practical Perks
One thing that surprised me was the parking situation — they actually have private spots available, which is sort of a miracle in this part of Manhattan. You know how stressful it can be driving in the city, so having that option takes a huge weight off your shoulders. The staff genuinely seems to care about making your stay smooth, and they’re full of local recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. They pointed me toward this little wine bar around the corner that I never would have found otherwise.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances that historic New York charm with actual comfort — and I don’t just mean the beds, though those are exceptional. It’s the way you can step outside and be in the heart of one of the city’s most dynamic neighborhoods, then come back to this calm, almost sanctuary-like space. The building has character that you simply can’t manufacture in newer hotels, and when you combine that with a location that puts you right in the middle of everything worth seeing in Chelsea, well, it’s easy to understand why people keep coming back.

Guest Reviews
With the exception of the squeaky floor, with every step I took, it was okay.
1.The closeness to the High-line and my friend’s restaurant, Juban.
2.The elevator.
3.Ironing board,
4.LOVED the triple filtered delicious water + complimentary branded swell (reusable) bottles to keep. (Nice perk, everyone enjoys a free gift).
5.Coloring books and coloring pencils, cute touch!
6.Delicious cafe
7.Blackout curtains!
8.Thick walls! (Most hotels don’t have this)!
9.One hour later check out is offered, even with a late check out package offering for $$$,
This was generous. (Most hotels don’t give this),
10. Bathtub and shower combo
11. The room size.
What could be improved: 1. The stairs leading to the elevator.
2. The mattress was way too soft!
3. Only two towels, 2 wash-clothes(I understand trying to conserve energy).
4. Only ONE bath-rope for two guests? Plus no slippers like mentioned online.
5. If we didn’t ask for water, we would never have known about the complementary branded (reusable) swell bottles.
6. No plastic baggy with the Ice buckets (could be those green biodegradable bags).
7. No plugs near mirrors outside of the bathroom.
8. There was a used match in the amber glass jar in the bathroom, which also smelled like marijuana, which was surprising for the location, and cost of the stay.
9. A shower cap and vanity set would have been appreciated.
10. The desk embosser didn’t work, but looked very cool.
What could be improved: The room and bathroom was very dark. No AC, no water cups.
This hotel is absolutely beautiful from the outside, very stylish and bohemian. It is well situated in the wonderful Chelsea neighbourhood. Check-in was quick and efficient with helpful and friendly staff, and it was nice that all the communications leading up to the staff offered a variety of extras for your arrival. The room was a lovely size, quite surprising for the area, with a really comfortable bed.
What could be improved: Dogs, everywhere, all the time. I totally understand that this is a pet friendly hotel, and the lovely ground floor coffee shop is very popular with locals. As a traveller without a pet, I was quite put out by constantly trying to avoid dogs, they blocked doors, corridors, the elevator. On rainy days, there was a definite odour of wet dog all across the ground floor.
The other issue we experienced in the rooms was regarding noise and temperature. The single pane windows were not well maintained and did not close properly, which meant the room was quite noisy. The in room aircon was so ancient and badly maintained, it sounded like it was going to explode every time it was turned on.

Location is excellent, and the facilities themselves are first class. The courtyard out the front is beautifully set, and a very pleasant place to sit and read while having a drink or catch up with friends. The bed was extremely comfortable and bathroom well equipped.
What could be improved: The bedroom itself was relatively small, my double bed took up the entire width, other than a small bedside table. If there was more than just myself staying there it would have felt extremely cramped. For the amount of money, I was disappointed with this. Similarly, the staff could have been a lot more attentive. They were quite slow dealing with anything and one in particular was rather rude.
