Overview

Margaritaville Resort Times Square

I'll be honest – when I first heard about Margaritaville Resort Times Square, I was a bit skeptical.

I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Margaritaville Resort Times Square, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, a Jimmy Buffett-themed hotel in the middle of Manhattan? But you know what, it actually works better than you’d think. The four-star property sits right on 7th Avenue at 40th Street, and once you step inside, there’s this weird but welcome contrast between the tropical vibe and the chaos of New York just outside the revolving doors.

The lobby hits you with this sort of laid-back beach atmosphere – think palm fronds and sunset colors – which honestly feels pretty surreal when you can literally see the neon madness of Times Square through the windows. What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed to create actual quiet spaces in one of the loudest neighborhoods on earth. The rooms are surprisingly well soundproofed (trust me, this matters when you’re literally in the heart of Times Square), and they’ve got this casual elegance thing going on without being too kitschy. The beds are solid, the bathrooms are modern, and there’s enough space to actually open your suitcase – which isn’t always a given in NYC hotels.

Here’s what locals probably won’t tell you: the hotel’s restaurant situation is actually pretty decent for the area. Most Times Square spots are tourist traps, but the Margaritaville restaurant downstairs serves food that’s… well, it’s not going to win any James Beard awards, but it’s way better than grabbing a hot dog from a street cart at midnight. Plus, and this is key if you’re staying here during busy season – you can escape the crowds without leaving the building. The rooftop situation gives you those classic Manhattan views without fighting through the masses down on the street level. I’ve stayed here during both the crazy holiday rush and quieter spring weeks, and honestly, the staff handles the tourist chaos pretty well. Check-in can get backed up on weekend evenings (everyone seems to arrive between 3 and 6 PM), but they’ve usually got enough people working to keep things moving. One small thing that bugged me – the elevators can be slow during peak times, but I mean, you’re literally staying above one of the busiest intersections in the world, so what do you expect? Overall, it’s one of those places that could easily be a gimmick but actually delivers on being a comfortable base for exploring the city.

new york anytime again - but this hotel, never again!

either you love or hate new york - we love it! however, we would not come back to this place. although the rooms are very nice, the location in midtown is just perfect; we did not like the staff at all - unfriendly and not helpful at all - we did not feel welcome as guests. example: at the bar (pool level), we had to ask and remind the waiters - who were chatting with each other rather than serving the guests - 3 times till they took our order and served the drinks. i visited new york more than 35 times during the last 20 years and this hotel is/was the worst ever. neber again!

Clean modern rooms, great porter, but surly manager

The rooms were very clean, bed was comfortable. Nice design and decor. Good to have a pool, although we barely used it so not exactly value for money. Upon check out, the porter Kalsang was excellent. He arranged our taxi back to La Guardia, carefully took our bags and the moment we arrived back in time at the hotel for our taxi Kalsang was there with our bags, he was kind prompt and professional.

What could be improved: The manager. She was a young woman with shoulder to mid length wavy/curly brown hair. We tried calling reception to ask for our room to be made up and needed a pen but not one answered. When we went down she was there, not smiling, not friendly. We told her we tried calling reception and no one answered, she didn’t seem to care and acted indifferent and she said would ask housekeeping to clean our room. Then I asked for a pen (since the one we had that is especially provided for the room broke) and she just gave me one of the used pens (that had a stain on it). On the day of check out I saw her at the desk, she didn’t smile or seem warm. Then I pulled another staff member aside and mentioned my concerns about her attitude and was surprised to find out she is the manager - wow, shocking!

Last but not least, not staying in Times Square again - it was madness and we are used to big cities, since we live in London.

Great hotel, clean, with a nice pool by Times Square!

We had a great stay just one night for my bfs birthday, I paid extra $60 and they decorated the room with balloons and some Prosecco & chocolates. The pool was really nice on a hot day and good location. I would stay again!

Great place! High-level service and stay experience.

Great place!
I usually like to diversify and try different hotels in New York, but this time I returned here thanks to 'Tiffany'. Her professional service, warm attitude, and the fact that she even recognized me from a previous stay made me feel truly valued.
The entire reception staff are courteous, skilled, and always there for you with a smile and positive energy, doing everything to make you feel at home. The doormen, security guards, and logistics team are also friendly, attentive, and always ready to help – creating a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.
From my extensive experience, this level of service is rare in New York. I haven’t encountered anything comparable, not even in the most famous luxury hotels of Manhattan.
Of course, the facilities themselves deserve mention: the sparkling cleanliness, the unique design, and the excellent location.
I am already looking forward to returning again soon!

Lot of cash, no place to stash

Location was great

What could be improved: Room was very small. $300.00 a night you would think there would be room to stow luggage. Had to put it on the floor at the end of bed, which took away from already limited space. One tiny table and 1 little stool, had to sit on bed to drink coffee or eat any food you might have. Only a spot 6 inches wide to hang clothes with 4 hangers. Spent $1200.00 for four nights in a tiny box.

New York City

The property's prime location offers convenient proximity to Times Square. The establishment boasts exceptional dining options and a refreshing pool.

The bedding was comfortable, featuring high-quality linens and pillows. The shower was well-appointed and spacious.
